State Reps. Jon Cross and Reggie Stoltzfus emailed their fellow lawmakers Friday in an appeal for co-sponsors of the bill, which they said was intended "to celebrate one of the greatest presidents in American history," Cincinnati.com reported.

Trump has never lived in Ohio but he won the state handily both in 2016 and 2020.

"Let's show the 3,154,834 Ohio voters who cast their ballot to re-elect Donald J. Trump that we as a legislature recognize the accomplishments of his administration," the email said.

While June 14 is the former president’s birthday, it’s also Flag Day, which was started in the last century to mark the date of the adoption of the American Flag in 1777.

One Democrat said he felt that June 14 would be "disrespectful."

"I don’t like the idea of changing an existing federal holiday that honors the flag," state Rep. Jeff Crossman, D-Parma, told Cincinnati.com.

The hack also revealed the supposed leader of the Patriotic Brigade, a Texas resident named Kevin James Smith. This included Smith's face, address, phone number, date of birth, both email addresses, proof he paid to operate the website and a link to his page on the Texas Public Sex Offender Registry, where he is registered for having raped a 14-year-old girl.

Canada has added the far-right Proud Boys organisation to its list of “terrorist entities”, following pressure from lawmakers to take a harder line against far-right extremism after the deadly riot at the United States Capitol last month.

In a news conference on Wednesday, Public Security Minister Bill Blair said the federal government added 13 groups to the “terrorist” list, including the Proud Boys, the Atomwaffen Division, The Base and the Russian Imperial Movement.

“Recent events have made Canadians much more aware of the serious threat posed by violent extremist groups. These groups are unfortunately active in Canada and around the world. Their violent actions and rhetoric are fuelled by white supremacy, anti-Semitism, racism, homophobia, Islamophobia and misogyny,” Blair told reporters.

“The threat of ideologically motivated extremism has been identified as the most significant threat to domestic security in Canada.”

The Proud Boys, which was founded by a Canadian and has chapters in Canada and the US, among other countries, describes itself as a “Western chauvinist” organisation.
