England v Algeria

Badgers

Mr Big Shrimp!
R.I.P.
Okay, okay, okay, it is finally time for England to play again. Been plenty of criticism following the 1-1 draw against the USA but compared to France and Spain we are doing okay I think.

This should be a comfortable win but as usual England will be affected by other group results somewhat. ideally a 0-0 at Slovenia v USA I suppose but it is a hard one to call. I don't think anyone wants to see Germany in the first knock out game? Fabio Capello (happy birthday chap) not naming the team yet but doubt much will change.

So on the 70th anniversary of the "Finest Hour" speech by Winston Churchill will we have something to cheer? I hope so, this is usually about the time when England have a good run and look like they might win the whole thing. Our hopes will raise, one player will be a hero, songs will be sung and then we will get knocked out in the quarter finals.

God, how I despise this tabloid association with warfare.

Hugely relieved Gareth Barry is available to bring much needed balance but, assuming Capello plays Gerrard and Lampard, I expect Gerrard to not fail badly enough (on the left) for Capello to make the big decision. Then we'll play really decent opposition and it'll fall apart on the left and it'll be too late again.

I assume he'll start again with Heskey though we could play differently against this mediocre opposition and either Crouch or even Defoe could start. Upson with Terry, I assume.

Can't really see why each 'keeper can't have one Group game and see how it looks after that.

Jaysus Christ "Their finest Hour" ffs  and here was me thinking England were just playing a very average team in a very winnable group game, what sort of hyperbole will the Scum use when England have to play one of the other big teams in the knockout stages

A comfortable but not particualrly inspiring 3 - 0.

I cant see algeria having mor than a couple of chances on goal and they will struggle at set pieces and crosses.

Terry, Rooney and Heskey to score!

i think engerrrrrrlaaaand wil win 2-0 or 2-1

but tbh will laugh my tits off if they lose. will be sad for the players but the faces on some of my mates would be worth it

0-0 at half-time. Then in the 70th minute the England goalie concedes a stupid penalty by clattering into an Algerian forward and Algeria go 1-0 up. Silence descends upon the nation for the final 20 minutes as England throw everyone forward desperately searching for a goal to salvage a shred of dignity from an otherwise forgettable match.

Or alternatively, we batter them 4-0, Rooney hattrick and Gerrard free kick.

2-0 here too. once again we have all day to wait for the game... :(

COME ON!!!

It's painful having to wait all day - although hopefully it'll make for a good Friday night!!

I reckon we'll start firing tonight 3-0 England, or maybe 3-1 depending on who's in goal

It's an advantage playing after the USA v Slovenia in one respect as if it's a win for the States we know we'll have to better their score. I hate to play the prediction game so I'll just hope for a fairly convincing win with no stupid cards or injuries (or goalkeeping howlers!) oh and the Sun can piss off with the Churchill bollocks.

I'm hoping for more, but expecting an uninspiring win, quite possibly conceding a goal in the process. Probably because of Glen Johnson or Jamie Carragher.
