England cricket 2025. Something something Ashes

Been a stellar year so far. Combining the men and women together, it's played 8, lost 8.

Edited: Missed a game. It's eight.

Batter running in treacle. :( She was at least trying, though. Game was lost by then - they had to come back for the second.

I've not watched the T20s, but I watched some chunks of the ODIs. TBH England will be really disappointed with their performances. I do think they're better than that. Australia are a solid team with consistent performers throughout the side, and that's been good enough.

I do agree with you re the fielding, though. That's probably the biggest disappointment, just ahead of the unnecessary dismissals to poor balls when set. They went massively defensive when Alex Hartley criticised their fitness, but they're all full-time pros and fielding to an at-least competent level is a minimum to expect really.

Not England, but I'll put this here. Kemar Roach forgets he's not 21 any more and does himself a mischief sadly, but what a catch! Game-changer.

WI recovering from 37-7 in the first innings. Pakistan now need 178 more to win with six wickets left and the ball spinning all over the place. No Roach for the second innings, but WI shouldn't need him tomorrow.

Was a slightly bizarre moment on yesterday's commentary where one of them quoted the England coach as saying he had spent the previous afternoon watching the children on Bondi  and concluded that the reason the Aussies are so much better at sports and fitter in general is that they spend far more time outside due to the climate. I mean he's probably got a bit a point. But then NZ is better at most sports and it's fucking freezing there.

It's utter bollocks. And really shit to try to make excuses like that. Australia has a massive childhood obesity problem, even worse than the UK.

I can't be arsed researching that but having spent a fair amount of time in both countries I'd doubt it. Aussies are generally in better shape, from what I've seen anyway.

It's always amused me that Britain has invented pretty much all the major sports in the world but are always at best second best at them. The Aussies and NZ overachieve at sport because those two countries don't have much else going on. Both are pretty boring places (IMHO).. But yeh, when you fly into Australia it's very noticable how many sports fields there are. But then again it's fucking huge. We are not.

Er, you did notice that fucking great big desert in the middle Petcha? It's not really huge, they have about 6 cities. But everywhere I went had sports fields, for all sports, in the different suburbs. And I'm willing to bet they were subsidised or free, like their lidos. They cater for sport. We've sold all ours off.

Yeh, I'm more talking flying into Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. Never flown over the outback. But they've prolly got some wickets set up there somewhere.
