England at the World Cup 2018

Steel Icarus

we move
So. Chances?

I think the young fearless lads might surprise a few people judging by tonight's win against Costa Rica.

Loftus-Cheek looked very good tonight, and Rashford was brilliant. Why talk about Rashford or Sterling? Why not play both?

The team tonight seemed better than the actual team Southgate will pick, but there you go.

I can't see us winning a game to be honest, but I'll be behind the lads all the way!

Rashford looked good tonight, I'd play him instead of raheem, they are interchangeable at least. Rose looked good, but there is no one to ping accurate long balls to the forwards.

I would have had Shelvey, with Carroll or Crouch as wildcards to bring on when we are drawing 0-0 against Iceland in the quarter finals. Play to our strengths and all that.

Quarters would be fine, bonus if we give it a good go v Germany assuming it's them we'd face. No real England fan expects anything but I think most like Southgate's team, they're more entertaining than most England teams I can remember recently and there are no bad eggs (thank fuck Rooney isn't there to stink out the gaff again). I quite like the 3-5-2 with the right players (Lingard and Sterling) in it to open up space in the low blocks, something we've usually been pony at when it matters

ultimately it's nice to just quite like watching England

Isn't this exactly the kind of thing they are trying to get away from with this whole England DNA thing? All England teams at all age groups coming through playing in a similar way so there is continuity and we don't have to panic and lump it to a big man, resorting to stick it in the mixer football.

I mean, that's not been entirely successful for us down the years.

Neither will the 'dna' nonsense either though, will it? Especially when we come up against Germany, Spain, France, Brazil, Wales, Iceland etc etc.

No one uses a big target man and we haven't for a decade, Crouchy or Carroll would mix things up a bit in the last 15 minutes when we are inevitably losing.

We'll see, I guess. The next Euros looks like a better period of time to assess whether it is working, this WC feels like a bit soon for this group of players. It certainly seems to be working at youth level.

Hmmmm.

Hmmmm.

This 'building for the future' schtick is also peddled a lot, we've been doing this for the last 10 years or so. I hope you're right though and we start to get better.

It's cup football, it's about the moment and playing to strengths, which we fail to do time after time.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love us to win a game at the World Cup but I'll believe it when I see it.

Trying to play football like a 3rd rate Spain looks ok in friendlies, but we can't do it in tournaments and be successful, unfortunately.

Kane can act as a target man when play suits, can't he? He's a big lad, and could knock down balls to an onrushing Sterling/Alli/Rashford/Vardy/Lingard.

That said, I'm not sure he'd want that too often.

"My job now is to lead the country...and the team"

Bit above your station Gareth la', don't get carried away now will you.

We should all be do this AND more to show our support :D
