Ecuadorans go to the polls on Sunday, the Anglophone press only really cares because because of Assange, but in a broader sense the election is important because Ecuador is one of the last remaining 'pink tide' countries. The fantastically named Lenín Moreno, a successor to Rafa Correa, is polling as the most likely winner. His main opponent, Guillermo Lasso promises to do to Ecuador what Macri is doing to Argentina.

A decidedly non-biased summary from Telesur in English here.

Looks like Lasso's supporters are going to put up a fight - won't be pretty if Fox and Friends cover this Monday morning and Trump decides he has an opinion on it.

Trump has been quiet on Latin America so far, post campaign anyway. Perhaps the Latin American left could benefit from US disinterest as it did during Bush II, but as you say it could easily work out differently too. Worth remembering just how aggressive Obama administration was to the Latin American left, the Temer and Honduras coups were very strongly backed by DC.

US puppet, Lasso, candidate is refusing to concede even though 99% of the votes have been counted.

Mr. Lasso, from the port city of Guayaquil, had promised to cut back on what he called the excesses of the previous president, including by reducing the public-sector work force and government spending. He also proposed cutting taxes for the wealthy and for businesses.
Sound familiar?:hmm:

The ramifications spread beyond Ecuador:
Ecuador presidential election will show if continent's pink tide has truly turned
