Dulwich Hamlet fans discuss how to bring the joy back to Champion Hill

My point, though a bit tongue in cheek stands. Bring back a bit of rowdy ness and a lot of the current support won’t return. Is it fair to do this though?

I was nearby, we were singing the 'Edgar Kail in my heart keep me Dulwich' song, a group of youngish lads joined in. One clearly didn't know the words and chanted 'No Surrender To The IRA', then was mocked by his mates and shut up.

I turned around to say something but couldn't work out which one it was, so left it.

It's far from ideal, but it was one idiot. I wouldn't read it as an infestation of EDL types at Champion Hill.

With respect, I’m not having that.

Firstly, his mates didn’t mock him into shutting up. At all. His mates actively hid him, and later taunted that I didn’t know who it was.

Secondly, and more importantly, it’s really not good if people are turning up and thinking that’s what we sing.

I do agree though that it wasn’t EDL shite. It was just people who think it’s okay to chant stuff about the goalie being poor, being born to a poor mother, being a disappointment to his mother because he’s paid to kick a ball, and so on.

Ok, I didn't know that about his mates. All I can speak from is my own experience, I was going to intervene, as were people I was with, but it had stopped and I had no idea who it was. It's not good if people turn up singing that to put it mildly, I don't want to belittle the action.

I heard people telling him he'd got it wrong, I thought they were with him, possibly they weren't.

But I also got the impression from this thread that some people who weren't there thought it was an ongoing thing with more than one person, and it wasn't, so wanted to make that clear. I am in no way defending it, just offering my account as I was nearby.

I did hear some of what you describe but not all as it was, as I think has been mentioned, quite busy. I didn't realise it was the same group. I was just addressing the IRA thing.

Yes agreed. It wasn’t an ongoing thing. It was some prick, hidden by his shithouse mates, who were astonished to be challenged on it.

I wasn't there but it sounds very much to me like the sort of stuff a lot the of 'ooh look we're at the football, how funny' posh lads who make up a big chunk of the crowd now tend to come out with. It was probably ironic I expect.

Please say someone pulled them up on that? Unacceptable that is.

And in the film companies description of the program….”where he attempts to turn around a struggling grassroots football club.”

Struggling with having too high numbers!

Just FYI in case you haven’t seen. You can submit questions in advance ahead of the 1pm start. I have (on this topic) as have others. The more the more difficult to ignore, I’d say.
Have submitted my question and was pleased to see several others along the same lines.

The one thing the club may struggle to control however, is the fact that a lot of fans want to robustly challenge Crouch's involvement with the club given his support of the betting industry.

Oh I agree. If I was allowed onto the Discord thingy I'd tune in to see him answer.

Spank him over this and don’t stop.

And so it's not happening now and it looks like it won't be for some time.

I obviously hope Tom's grandparents get better soon and totally sympathise with his plight, but why the entire thing should be totally dependent on him being there is anyone's guess.

Surely there's someone else who could host the chat or just email him the questions? After all, fans have waited a VERY long time to get any kind of communication with Crouch...

  1. All - I have a family emergency I need to leave for (grandparents both in hospital - not ideal..) I'm gonna have to postpone this for a week or two, will log all questions and commit a new date ASAP. Sorry! Peter is around over the next few weeks so I'll endeavour to get a time set in!

You’d need someone who can moderate the discord forum and has a personal relationship with Crouch and can also give a view from the club board at a high level. I didn’t think it’s even be worthwhile doing it without Tom. Like Nivag says it’s the sort of frailty you expect if you rely on a small group of volunteers…

As for emailing the questions and publishing Crouch’s answers…. seems to defeat the object

The cancellation of this is a timely reminder of how small a team of people are working behind the scenes.
But also a reminder of how some important jobs can be under the entire control of one person, and perhaps that's not always a good thing?

I fail to see why Crouch can't be mailed the questions by someone else and have the ones he chooses to answer posted up.
