I find myself rooting for the 4chan version of events. I guess because, Trump will be gone in 4 years anyway and Pence is waiting in the wings, while if it turns out to be the Troll of all Trolls, then the CIA may just end up being the biggest laughing stock of the decade.

My guess is the story will eventually sink back into the general morass of things Trump has probably done. For it to get anywhere and, as you say, get Republicans behind it, the story would need to both hard evidence and to become framed as 'traitorous' anti-American behaviour.

Among the claims he made in the tape is that the FSB have a network of apartments and hotel rooms in Moscow rigged up with secret recording equipment specifically for honeytrap/blackmail purposes. He then named two people who I won't.

The FSB have a similar setup in London apparently. The old Rossiya airlines office in berkley Sq had an almost comedic reputation as being the front for FSB - even to the point where a Russian friend was unable to sort out a straightforward flight booking question with the staff there

It's worth taking a step back and thinking about what is happening.

This information has been passed to the media, with the connivance of the intelligence services, with the intent of delegitimising the next US president. This is something that the incoming US president has recognised, and said so explicitly, comparing it to Nazi Germany.

This is all incredibly unprecedented, the closest parallel I can think of is Harold Wilson but none of that was played out in such a public way.
