Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

Krugman, who as a Clinton partisan viciously attacked Sanders just as he did Obama in 2008, seems to be suggesting that there may never be another presidential election in the US.

“I never expected Trump charging into a goblin’s nest to not get some goblin vomit and schlop and blood on him,” said Jones. “I just don’t want to catch him in bed with a goblin. But if he’s in there rolling around hacking ‘em up and he’s got a goblin guide, y’know, taking him into the cave, I’m not expecting him to not get dirty, especially up to his ankles.”

“I don’t wanna see him kissing goblins, having political succubus with goblins,” Jones added.

See below from up the thread: The Republicans are within a hair's breadth of being able to amend the US constitution. Abolishing elections as we know them isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

Yep, and stuff like this doesn't lighten the mood....

I suspect long before that happens, martial law will be declared and elections suspended, among other things. I don't think most folks have even an inkling of how deep the shit is. :(

If it looks like a goose, honks like a goose and steps like a goose, well Hell!
Then I'm sorry but you really don't have the first clue about fascism. These shouts that Trump is a fascist are not just nonsense they are counter-productive, they just emphasise your disconnection from the millions of people you need to win over if you want to defeat Trump in 2020.

Go ahead and enjoy a headwank about whether what's unfolding meets the perfect dictionary definition of the word "fascism." Call it Gertrude or Horace if it makes you happy.

Increasingly doubting there will be an election in 2020.

We knows the establishment has been bashed by the voters coz the establishment said.

2 types of US stock to rise in recent days: private prisons & weapons makers.Take that, establishment! Ker-fuckin-pow.

Lets be clear here are you seriously claiming that Trump is a fascist? Or are you just posting some silly gifs?
  • Blaming bogeymen abroad and at home, and identifying a disadvantaged group to blame, demonise and persecute (Mexicans, the rapists and drug dealers).

  • Promising protectionism to help the ordinary working person (mostly men), which is actually a plan to help big business by privatising public spaces (private infrastructure initiatives).

  • Identification of anti-American cultures and beliefs (Muslims).

  • Harking back to an imagined former greatness (which includes heavy hints at the causes of things going wrong - namely, inclusiveness, diversity, liberal social values, those uppity welfare scroungers sponging off the decent folk).

  • Identifying 'decent folk', and giving them simple and simplistic slogans, cultivating a persona that eschews intellectualism for feeling (those feelings being false and shallow, as he doesn't actually seem to believe in anything at all).

  • Scaring people with a carefully crafted 'other', then reassuring them that he is on their side.

  • Setting himself up as the outsider, separate from the corrupt elite, which he is here to take down, and threatening all kinds of things if he doesn't get his way as a result of some constitutional process (imagine how he'd be behaving now if he'd won the popular vote by more than a million but lost the electoral college).

Sure I've missed some stuff. The existential question 'is he a fascist?' isn't really the point. The point is that there are full-on fascist leanings within all kinds of aspects to Trump - his policy ideas, his leadership style, his political instincts, and his rhetoric.

Exclusive: Riding Trump wave, Breitbart News plans U.S., European expansion

The right-wing Breitbart News Network is expanding its U.S. operations and launching sites in Germany and France, its U.S. editor-in-chief told Reuters, as it seeks to monetize the anger and anti-immigrant sentiment unleashed by Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign.

The planned expansion is one sign of how the right-wing media landscape is shifting in the wake of Trump's campaign to provide a platform for the more radical views that helped fuel the Republican candidate's shock election victory on Tuesday.

Breitbart, whose profile surged when its former head Stephen Bannon was tapped in August to become Trump’s campaign chairman, has been a close ally of the New York real-estate mogul in conservative media. A leading voice of the so-called Alt-Right movement -- a loose-knit movement of white nationalists, anti-Semites and immigration foes -- it regularly attacks Republican Party elites, publishes anti-immigrant themed stories and promotes political conspiracy theories.

He's mentally ill, isn't he? He's not hiding it now. That's kinda sad, lying shitsack that he is, he's at least entertaining, even if he peddles the same bullshit, he's no Bannon.

Also, didn't he try to fight Cenk from TYT at the RNC?

And this nonsense is why you better get used to losing.

  • <list of things common to most governments>
You've just defined 50+% of the current governments of the world as fascist, let alone how many past governments. This is just nonsense, keep talking to yourselves about fascist Trump but you're only increasing the gap between you and the people you want to win over.

Seen him compared to Berlusconi at lot recently, which is apt, but he's worse.

Fascism is just a binary label anyway, if he doesn't give it to himself, he'll always be able to wriggle out somehow "look, I employed a black man one time, and I even ate fried chicken with a knife and fork in front of him". The key thing is Bannon, who does appear to be a throwback to fascist propaganda.

All those confused racist, sexist, xenophobic thickoes who couldn't afford a higher education voted for fascism and Bolshevism (which seeks at first to capture the state not destroy it). I think there should be restrictions.

No, no. Restrictions. On those who voted against Trump's platform of hate/racism/misogyny/and more.

Oh yes.

And this isn't just some academic debate, it's important both because by incorrectly labelling him, and the similar groups, as a fascist you both (1) show a total misunderstanding of the forces driving the support of the populist hard right and (2) make yourselves look like loons to many of the people you need to win over.

Also shares in banks are going up - Trump wants to get rid of the regulation brought in by Obama; and it's expected that Trump economics will lead to inflation, and greater profits for the banks.

As markets absorbed Trump's upset presidential win, Bank of America Corp. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. each surged almost 6 percent, while the KBW Bank Index rose as much as 5.5 percent, its highest level since August 2015.

Buyers piled in because banks' regulatory burden will likely be eased under a Trump administration and Republican-controlled Congress, which could lead to reduced compliance costs. The GOP platform states that no financial institution is "too big to fail," and calls for repealing parts of the Dodd-Frank Act. Trump has said he wants to dismantle it.

Bank stocks also gained on the expectation that many of Trump's economic policies -- tax reform and infrastructure spending, for instance -- will be reflationary, and spur faster rate hikes. Banks earn bigger profits when rates rise they can take a wider margin on their loans to customers and earn more on their mammoth cash reserves.
