Donald Trump, the road that might not lead to the White House!

You cannot blame Trump on Clinton. America just elected a sexual predator and you're saying it's the woman's fault?

i said "partly responsible". Cos shes part of a neo-liberal political establishment that happily ignored and exacerbated the inequality that helped create the conditions that trumps bigoted demagoguery could thrive in. Because she refused to meaningfully address those issues in her campaign policies and she forced out Sanders - who was addressing those issues and would surely have beaten Trump.

If you think a Jewish Socialist was going to win...

White, working-class and angry: Ohio's left-behind help Trump to stunning win

Inside a strip-mall office in Youngstown, north-eastern Ohio, dozens of white working-class voters were celebrating an extraordinary revenge after eight years of bruising defeat by Barack Obama’s rainbow coalition. A rebuke of an economic system that had left them feeling humiliated and hopeless.

“All the media and all the pollsters just didn’t understand that the little people like us all over the country were quietly supporting Donald Trump,” said John Vass, a 66-year-old engineer and former Democrat. “And today we made our voices heard.”

Vass called up on his cellphone a photograph of his 97-year-old mother, Mary Ann, who lives in a nearby nursing home. “She also was a hardcore Democrat much of her life,” he said. “And Trump is her guy, too.”

White, working-class and angry: Ohio's left-behind help Trump to stunning win

Youngstown is a blue collar steel town, with a long labour movement history and immortalised in a Springsteen Song, its worrying, going by this, the move away from that, the left, etc has been a lot longer than this Election

Robin Speece, a 61-year-old retired teacher and yet another former Democrat, said she was eager for Trump to repeal Obama’s signature healthcare reform. Her husband, who already pays $700 a month for insurance and has a $7,000 deductible, is facing a 25% increase in his premium next year, she said.

“I am just so ecstatic,” Speece said soon after Trump’s clinched Ohio. “It would have meant socialism in this country if Clinton had won. The end of the American dream.”

Joe Jasinski, a 72-year-old former firefighter, who said he had voted for Democrats as far back as Lyndon Johnson in 1964, urged Trump to prioritize blocking America’s acceptance of refugees from the Syrian civil war. “You can’t vet these people,” he said. “We need to destroy Isis, like Trump has said he will.”

Old, white, rural people voted for Trump. Luckily, old people die and the long-term trends are inexorably towards a less white, more urban population. This kind of victory will get harder and harder to repeat.

Obviously there were very diverse voters . ..and not just the elderly and rural voters.

By the way...
You forgot fans of The Simpsons . ..

All hail the Simpson prophecies.

For what good it will do, I see there is a protest outside the American embassy tonight, sadly too sick to make it Stand Up To Racism - We are the majority and we will stand up to racism

"Anti-racist protest tonight against Trump election outside US Embassy London
Anti-racist protesters will gather outside the USA embassy tonight after the election of Donald Trump as US President (details below).
Trump has cynically whipped up fear and racism, exploiting the stagnant US economy and the fall in living standards for the majority of Americans, to mobilise his vote."

th

Oh Look the SWP have found another issue to source new members from.

My preferred new title...

"Donald Trump, the road that will probably lead us to Cormac McCarthy's "The Road"."

Nah, unless there's a massive paradigm shift way from the way things operate presently I feel that scenario is all too likely on the cards regardless who had won.

Its all kinds of horrible. The smug urban elite might get back into power through simple weight of demographics.
People came out with exactly the same line in 2012. Demographics were supposed to mean that Trump would never be elected, demographics were supposed to mean the end of the Tory party. Doesn't seem to be working so far.

Perhaps peoples politics are affected by their material conditions and can change.

Well said . .

Yes; because with Trump as President, drone strikes will cease, the US will stop supporting Israel, the NSA will stop spying on people everywhere; and the US will stop making a general botch-up in the Middle East - as it has been doing for decades now under both Republican and Democratic governments.

Bollocks. She didn't ignore the inequality. She and her ilk created it . Very deliberately . Fuck her campaign speeches and what thy addressed . We know from wiki leaks she was telling her wall street sponsors to ignore them . That they were for public consumption and in reality theyd be looked after.

Why are you saying this neoliberal establishment ignored these injustices ? They deliberately fucking created them . It was no accident . Who else did it ? There isn't anybody else only that establishment .

This is bollocks .

It's partly ..very much.. her fault for not divorcing and denouncing the other one they elected twice . She was in no position to credibly denounce this one after defending the other one from " bimbo eruptions " ..as she refereed to the other instances of predatory sexual behaviour.

America also rejected a genocidal mass murderer . Much to your chagrin. You've no fucking morals. Stop lecturing. And whining .

No actually keep up the whining. I'm giggling into my pint every time I see someone doing it .

To be fair, for both Brexit and Trumpit, the pollsters had it at pretty much 50/50 in the last days. Both actual results were probably round about within the stated margin for error. Not their fault if people interpret 49/51 +/- 3 as being a solid prediction of a win for the 51.

If it was margin of error stuff you'd expect just as many pollsters to overstate Trump as understate him. Also you'd expect successive polls from the same pollster to do the same.

The possibility of someone like Trump becoming president was always a good reason by the surveillance infrastructure shouldn't be put in place in the first place, that was an abstract point made by people like Snowden for years before Trump running for president had occurred even to Trump.

So.... her real sin has to do with her decisions about her status as a wife; and not about her decisions as a politician?

No matter how much aerosol spray you try to apply, the stench of misogyny manages to waft through every time.

Interesting that a number of states voted to legalize recreational marijuana.

So: the US will become a country where some citizens can smoke pot; but once the Trump Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade, women won't be able to obtain legal abortions.
