Taiwan has played it very clever in developing its Tech sector over several decades and chip-giants aside, have worked very hard to avoid the monolithic Asian corporate structures that are prime tariff targets and have become dangerously close to coming completely and often corruptly unstuck in countries like South Korea and Japan.

Imposing tariffs might well expose just how much Taiwanese talent, IP and specialist manufacturing at a small to medium-size company scale has become heavily enmeshed with the US home industry and royally fuck them-up..!

This is the topic. The threads have been merged, and people are discussing why. Perhaps if posters stopped throwing out nonsense some of us wouldn't feel the need to defend ourselves?

I post relevant Trump related content on a Trump thread, but somehow myself and others seem to have lowered the tone for those whose intellect is superior, as they have pages of discussions on semantics and the latest theoretical meaning of who said what when. This is a fast moving and dangerous political climate currently, and maybe semantic discussions are what some want the threads to be. I'm not going to apologise for keeping abreast of the situation via fast moving news from the US, while some want to show off their latest academic reading.

If the other thread can hold all the stuff that's working as a Vaudeville pressure valve (which is important and necessary) then I can choose more broadly, instead of on every page and every other post whether I want to think or scoff.

Another pertinent reason might be that Trump/MAGA have repeatedly demonstrated that humour is amongst the things that they can cope with least effectively and it winds them-up something rotten. So keep laying it-on thick on that thread!

And breadandcircuse before you take it personally again, I get it. We’re all angry, shocked and feeling powerless. But there has to come a point where just saying that over and over becomes frustrating to say, never mind read.

We can display our stickers. I do that too. But we can also have discussion. Let’s discuss. Maybe start with general perceptions on the pardoning of Jan 6th rioters. This actually hasn’t gone down as well in the US as the Trump administration might have hoped. We can compare and contrast. How is the US media reacting? Is it moving away from antipathy toward the Jan 6 brigade? This is an interesting point about how civil society works, and how it forms part of the ramparts of hegemony.

That would be one way to get into a constructive discussion.
