Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

If, however, you look at it from a per capita point of view, which is far more sensible when you think about it, the US produces 15.74 tonnes per person, whilst China only produces 7.72.

I'd check that number against their current population count. They've substantially overcounted their population (I've heard estimates as low as 800 million. That number would put them at parity). You also have to look at if the emissions are climbing or falling.

They also have a population crisis as the birth rates of their younger demographic have fallen dramatically:

I think India has surpassed them population wise.

He'll be moaning that those giant fans must use a lot of electricity to produce all that wind an'all.

You may joke, but a mate sent me a link to a youtube video for a laugh, it was this covid denier, anti-vaxxer, climate change denier, and he was being serious in telling his viewers that wind turbines used more electricity than they produced, FFS.

Yes, I've heard this. It's an example of figures don't lie, but liars figure. The person who came up with that figure looked at all of the processes used in producing turbines including mining, manufacturing, maintenance, and shipping values. He used the largest values possible and then used a very short lifespan for the turbines to get this figure.

This guy wasn't that 'bright', he was actually claiming more electric was used to turn the turbines than they actually produced, it was truly bonkers.

He probably heard the previous figure and was too dumb to understand it, or how it was calculated. If you listen to these figures as they filter through the information ecosystem, they often mutate.

I was banging my head on the table this morning over this story in the Fail:

If you actually read the story, which most of the Fail's "readers" will not do, you find that half of those kids are home in 24 hrs. 96% get back home within a short time after that. Only a small percentage stay missing over a longer period of time. I suspect if you really looked at those kids, you'd find previously existing issues in the family that either got them kicked out, or they left because home was untenable. I wouldn't be surprised if many of them were molested in the home, or came out as gay or trans. However, if you're dumb enough to read the comments (guilty as charged), most people assume those 1,000 kids, who go missing per year, are gone forever and they're all in the hands of pedophiles, or worse yet Democrats! The pitch of this article wasn't an accident.

It won't be out by 500 million, figure has been 1.3 billion at least for some years now. India has indeed overtaken though.

Although, part of the issue is that a lot of China's pollution will come from making stuff for other countries.

"I don't need to consume less, look at China ffs" - it's all linked.

Not aiming this comment at you Yuwipi Woman, just a general comment.

Part of the reason for the drop in the US has been offshoring production to China. Keep in mind though that the US used to be the manufacturer of choice for most of the world for several decades. After WWII, when so much production capacity had been destroyed US manufacturing took up the slack. I actually look for this to reverse in the next decade. A lot of companies have been pulling away from China. Some of those are moving to India, but a few are onshoring back to the US because wages in the US have been stagnant since the Reagan administration. India's emissions will rise accordingly if I'm correct.

Ah, right. Thanks.
Stricter gun laws than I had realised..
And stricter than Trump had realised, oops:
Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung said Monday on social media that the former president bought a Glock, but then another Trump spokesperson clarified that the purchase did not actually happen. Cheung deleted his tweet and did not respond to a query from HuffPost.
A representative from Palmetto State Armory in Summerville, South Carolina, told HuffPost that Trump visited the store on Monday but didn’t buy anything.

Tbf I didn't know this restriction either, but then I'm not running for US President.

o next year there's the potential that he could have his finger on the nuclear button, but wouldn't be allowed to buy a gun.
Appalling thought isn't it.

By that metric London probably sees 45 children go missing most nights, and double that on weekends.
