Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

I made good money last time Trump popped up as a potential candidate ( all went to food bank I must stress) & kept on
Moving the cash to back him until he got in..present odds are not enticing for another tenner wager .

they're saying it a little more clearly now

An attorney defending Donald Trump in his newest criminal case argued Wednesday that the former president’s efforts to reverse his 2020 election loss were based on legal advice he received at the time.

The defense attorney, John Lauro, pointed to the conservative lawyer John Eastman, who played a central role in the push to get then-Vice President Mike Pence to falsely declare Trump the winner of the election.

Eastman is one of six people described as Trump’s co-conspirators in the indictment filed Tuesday in Washington, D.C., federal court.

Blaming your lawyers and hoping they remain quiet would be risky, to say the least.

Given that he's highly unlikely to ever see the inside of a prison cell, I'd have thought 'bring it on' would be trump's best strategy, at least as a political strategy. Hiding behind your lawyers, less so. Ultimately though, the USA seems to be in an odd place where very little flickers the needle. And of course the Hunter Biden stuff is a perfect gift for me Republicans.

Given that Trump has form for never having your back, you have to wonder what sort of low life is representing him now.

I read somewhere he's going to go for a 'Free Speech' defence (among many others undoubtedly).

giuliani is already doing this

Not a man you'd want to shake the hand of. Particularly if you knew where I had been.

it an interesting take this from trump and his team

ok so he was telling people to find votes and telling pence reject the electoral college vote

but that within the realm of freedom of speech not interference with the election result

Pence is in an interesting place now - yes, hes way down in the polls currently but he has pretty much gone straight out the door since the indictment and said Trump is guilty of at least some of those charges. For that primary I think its a much better decision than repeating Trump's utterances or trying to out-alt-right Trump will prove to be. When DeSantis' campaign flames out I can't really see anywhere else for the anti-Trump GOP money to go, he can point to at least one instance of standing up to Trump when it matters and whilst Pence probably would never command a majority of the GOP support by himself against Trump he'd get enough support that it would be obvious that a third party run would ruin Trump's chances in 2024.

Plus he is almost certainly going to be the star witness in this case; that is a heaven-sent opportunity in a trial that will inevitably be televised and watched by most of the world.

Yeah that's how I see it as well. Surely Trump is the opponent the Dems would most like to have. Despite all the understandable fears raised here about it, Trump winning the candidacy is surely a good thing. Incompetent evil rather than competent evil.

That's the thing that struck me most about the attempts to overturn the 2020 election result - the sheer incompetence of everyone involved.
This is exactly the argument people where making the last time he won the candidacy look how well that went.

tbf i think Pence since the start has been trying to show himself as being more mainstream republican that Crazy
seeming as the crazies still have the control of the GOP not sure they would resort to back him even if trump trail is going to go badly

Trump's got control of them because they know its a divided country, and that even if his base is 10% of their electorate that is enough to do them in if he ever ran as a third party candidate. I don't think he would (he is too lazy, it wouldn't bring in enough money and he would inevitably lose), but they are too cowardly to call him on it.

Pence will never get the backing of the Trumpiest crazies, but I think he'd get enough backing from elsewhere in the GOP to make Trump realise that what he has been doing can be done to him. In this primary its hard to see who else that section of the GOP would go for either; DeSantis is failing at the basics and amongst the rest of the field there isn't really anyone that can point to actually standing up to Trump.

so where are we with the estate employees who did the leg work for Trump ? reading the reporting and not sure whether they are still loyal to their boss or are going to testify against him

Mike Pence is clearly an evil man who deserves to be drowned in a bucket of cat piss, though he has gone further than I expected in his remarks about Trump, and indeed his resistance to Trump's efforts to overturn the election.

Today's indictment serves as an important reminder: anyone who puts himself over the Constitution should never be President of the United States ... Our country is more important than one man. Our constitution is more important than any one man’s career. On January 6th, Former President Trump demanded that I choose between him and the Constitution. I chose the Constitution and I always will.

But given the fanatical loyalty to Trump of a large majority of GOP primary voters, he's probably got no more chance than Hunter Biden of winning the nomination

Given you've seen how much damage incompetence can cause, including rustling up a lynch mob to attack Congress so he could stay in power, I can only assume you've given this little thought

one candidate did and got booed off stage recently

the fact is not sure trump is even after the presidency anymore just the GOP taking care of his rising legal fees

he reputation amongst lawyer at this stage is so bad he limited in council if someone else is fronting the bills again they'll come circling for a payday

Freedom of speech seems to cover a lot over there.

The only thing that can explain that picture is if they were about to perform the Doctor In Distress charity single from the eighties

Every single thing he does and says shows him up to be a narcissistic self-serving arsehole with the mental capacity of a brain dead rodent and the morals of a starving vulture. Yet there always seems to be fools willing to give him the chance to throw them under the bus to save himself. We sure his name is Donald Trump and not Damien Thorn?

I think the fact that Trump voters were also far more likely to die from Covid than Democrats will not help his chances of reelection. Over a million died of Covid in the USA.

The other thing about the attempted coup is that at least in part the legal costs associated with the prosecutions are pushing at least 4 state Republican parties to the brink of bankruptcy.
