Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

Who could have expected this?

Trump is set to take the stage at Asheville's Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Wednesday after paying $82,247.60 to the city for a "last-minute" rally, according to Blue Ridge Public Radio (BPR). The campaign, struggling to effectively blunt the momentum of Vice President Kamala Harris, reportedly first contacted the city about the rally on August 8.

While the campaign paid in advance due to Asheville's policy for short-notice bookings, Trump has a long history of failing to pay cities for billed rally fees, leaving the White House in January 2021 with at least $850,000 in unpaid rally debt. Most of the bills are still unpaid, including more than $500,000 owed to the city of El Paso, Texas.

The Trump campaign booked the smaller of two venues at the same complex in downtown Asheville for Wednesday's rally. The Thomas Wolfe Auditorium has a capacity of just 2,431 people, while a larger arena next door that is not hosting Trump has a capacity of 7,200.

Just a reminder 😄

and the piece de resistance

tbf Frau Bahn was doing this on our Easter trip to Bequia. The taxis there are pickup trucks with bench seats in the back, during the ride from the airport to our villa people started waiving at us and she was waving back, it was only after a week of her doing this, smiling and waiving at all these friendly locals that I pointed out to her that on this small island of 5000 souls where everyone knows everyone, the people were waiving at their friend, the taxi driver...

Good article in The Guardian for a change

Very good. This is also a good one in terms of summing up the grim reality of trump.

The X Spaces interview delivered Donald Trump without makeup or dress-up, talking unselfconsciously: manic, boastful, untruthful, aggrieved, abusive, obsessive, random, ignorant, tedious, bitchy—and ultimately, formless and endless....
...Meandering, solipsistic, and crushingly boring—the interview was an awful premonition of the rest of Trump’s life should he lose again, in November: wandering the corridors of his clubs, going from table to table, buttonholing the dwindling number of guests, monologuing relentlessly until they squirm away.

To my mind there's been a fairly big shift in Trump and his campaign, an accusation that you could never have levelled at him in 2016 or 20 - he's really boring.

There was always that sense of "oh christ, what's he going to say or do next?" It's just not there anymore.

He's still being racist, but it's the same racism as always. He's still being sexist, but it's the same sexism as always. He lies the same lies, he comes out with new and/or improved weird shit but we're all so inured to weird shit that it just bounces off. After 10+ years on the presidential campaign, that aura (however misplaced) of "Washington Outsider" has dwindled, he's nowt but a full-time politician the same as the rest of them; and it's slowly drawn him into an arena where some of the same rules apply to him. Maverick, off the wall campaigning isn't working and he's flat out incapable of running a conventional one.

He won't accept defeat graciously, but there's a huge difference in clinging to power as the incumbent and taking it by force as the challenger.

Its the economy, stupid

But the press conference quickly became reminiscent of a Trump rally, with the former president leveling many of the same false claims he typically unleashes on the campaign trail and speaking for 45 minutes before taking his first question.

He insulted Harris repeatedly, saying she is "not smart." When a reporter noted that some Republicans have urged him to focus on policy, rather than personal attacks, he said, "I think I'm entitled to personal attacks."

"She certainly attacks me personally," Trump said.

Oh dear. :D

Exposed! Project 2025 co-author caught on hidden camera confirming Trump’s support

New video of a key Project 2025 architect, Russell Vought, also a former Trump cabinet member, confirms that Donald Trump has personally had talks with Vought about his work behind Project 2025--and that Trump gave him his blessing, according to reports. Joy Reid and her panel analyze the video and the links between Project 2025, Vought, JD Vance and Trump.

Worth watching that video report.
