Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

surely they sieze his assests now - hes just dicking them about. Presumably becasue he hasnt actually got the money.
The important part is not that he hasn't got the money (it is half a billion after all) but that he hasn't got the draw to get it from elsewhere. His sphere of influence is over other chancers and wannabes, this really is the emperor being shown beyond any reasonable doubt to be stark bollock naked.

The remaining bunch who can't comprehend "reasonable" will still vote for him (and it is a lot of people), but it's not enough.

tbf I imagine she's making sure there's absolutely no way Trump can wriggle once the appeal fails, by reducing the bond, then accepting the dodgy bond and so on, bending over backwards to help him and so on. Then once the appeal is thrown out he'll have nowhere at all to turn and if the bond company turns out to not have the money and Trump doesn't either, nor he has the assets to cover it, his bigly-billionaire-bullshit is blown once and for all.

His supporters will no doubt tell us how smart he is for figuring out how not to pay it.

Are there any rules about bankrupts running for President? We know that those serving time can still run the country in prison.

I guess the AG might have decided it would be a bad look to seize all Trump's assets and have him live in a tent outside the courthouse while the hush-money trial is ongoing, hilarious though it would have been

It does look as if there was a genuine issue which was resolved by ensuring that the collateral used was put under the control of someone other than Trump.

Actually looked like strong opening statement by prosecutors, then ...

2. Trump appeared uncomfortable

During much of Colangelo’s opening statement, Trump appeared uncomfortable in his seat with his brow furrowed while the unsavory details of the alleged affair with Daniels and his boasts about grabbing women’s genitals in the infamous Access Hollywood tape were read out to the jury.

But part of the Access Hollywood tape that was read out verbatim – when Trump remarked he could grab women “by the pussy” – caused Trump to frown deeper and fidget in his seat. The next six weeks are expected to be a test for Trump to keep his composure.

The point Blanche tried to stress was that Trump had nothing to do with the hush-money payments and how it was all arranged because Trump left it up to his former fixer and lawyer Michael Cohen.

Blanche also suggested Trump did nothing wrong in trying to influence the 2016 election, in part because catch-and-kill schemes are not illegal. “Entering into a non-disclosure agreement is perfectly legal,” Blanche said.

But other parts of his opening statement seemed bizarre. Blanche tried to portray Trump as just a family man – which felt jarring against the affair allegations. And Blanche once added Trump “is a man” like him – oddly, with no follow-up statement.
:)
eta: this is quite good, too
Blanche also found some of his statements stricken after the judge sustained prosecutors’ objections, including on assertions that Cohen previously lied in court and that Trump did everything on the advice of counsel.
(my bold) :D

A longtime friend of Donald Trump’s admitted on the stand Tuesday that their relationship had devolved into an orchestrated scheme to influence the 2016 election on Trump’s behalf.

David Pecker, the former publisher of the National Enquirer and former CEO of its parent company, American Media Inc., told the court Tuesday that he and Trump had coordinated not just to publish positive coverage of his friend ahead of the 2016 election, but also to publish negative coverage of other presidential candidates. In doing so, Pecker practically admitted to the catch-and-kill media scheme that Trump has repeatedly denied.

Trump had asked “what can I do and what my magazines can do to help the campaign,” Pecker said. Pecker had responded that he could “publish positive stories about Trump” and “negative stories about his opponents.”

Stories about Hillary Clinton were already popular amongst the Enquirer’s audience, so continuing to publish those articles was a “mutual benefit,” according to Pecker. Still, Pecker knew the plan should be kept “highly, highly confidential,” describing the undocumented meeting he had with Trump and Trump’s then-fixer Michael Cohen in August 2015 as “just an agreement among friends.” Pecker would later tell the Enquirer’s former editor-in-chief, Dylan Howard, to instruct the east and west coast bureau chiefs of the publication to redirect any stories about Trump to Pecker.
Sounds a little damning. I'm just disappointed that I can't work out a way to get Trump's Pecker into the post.

I'm starting to be a bit sympathetic for him though. :(

He has to attend criminal proceedings—and sit in a chair, and not attack the judge or witnesses or other people involved—because that is how these things work. He also can’t decide on a random Tuesday that he’d rather play golf than show up, and he’s not allowed to bring his own space heater to warm up his section of the courtroom—because, again, that’s not how any of this works.

Most people understand that these very basic rules are standard for anyone on trial for allegedly committing a bunch of crimes, and that they’re really just…not a big deal. But according to at least one Fox News anchor, the rules are clear evidence that the former president is being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment, the likes of which this country has never seen.
Incredibly, that was not all Watters had to say last night about the supposed injustices Trump is facing. In an amazing moment of unintended hilarity, the Fox News at one point began prescribing a regimen for Trump—and came off sounding like he was giving directions to the pet-sitter taking care of his elderly dog:
"The guy needs exercise" :(

Eleven Republicans who submitted a document to Congress falsely declaring that Donald Trump beat Joe Biden in Arizona in the 2020 presidential election were charged Wednesday with conspiracy, fraud and forgery, marking the fourth state to bring charges against “fake electors.”

The defendants include the former chair of the Arizona Republican Party, a 2022 U.S. Senate candidate and two sitting state legislators. The grand jury indictment also describes an unindicted co-conspirator who is clearly Trump.

The 11 people who had been nominated to be Arizona’s Republican electors met in Phoenix, Ariz. on Dec. 14, 2020, to sign a certificate saying they were “duly elected and qualified” electors and claiming that Trump carried the state. A one-minute video of the signing ceremony was posted on social media by the Arizona Republican Party at the time. The document was later sent to Congress and the National Archives, where it was ignored.
