Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

Republican Party now solidified as nothing more than a personality cult forTrump.

Ever since 1912 it's been a rotten, reactionary party steeped in bigotry, religious fundamentalism, violence and plutocracy, but it is now entering a new phase of barbarism. It now believes in nothing other than worshipping at the feet of a rapist, pedophile, insurrectionist and would-be dictator.
I wish there really was an "absolete bloodbath" at the rnc  :D

including ...

The Republican National Committee has hired former OAN reporter Christina Bobb as senior counsel for election integrity.

They are a menace the world has an interest in being destroyed

I sure hope this is right:

“Voters, donors, and staff alike are either fleeing the MAGA-fied Republican party or being chaotically forced out in a mass purge, casting a troubling shadow on the committee’s balance sheet and their prospects at the ballot box leading into a critical election year,” wrote DNC executive director Sam Cornale.

It does seem to me that the mad authoritarian cult the RNC has become seems like a better suited apparatus to a one-party dictatorship, but then such parties are thriving in India, Turkey, Hungary and so forth, so who knows?

they particularly like orban, that big defender of western christian values

Pretty sure I heard on some news outlet a couple of months ago that she's effectively told him to keep her out of it... Although I might also be hugely misremembering....

He is so very obviously completely unfit to be anywhere near the levers of power and yet there is a distinct possibility he may win the election this autumn:

The danger is he may be right - US divisions are so wide now, media so partisan, and social media algorithms so cloistered that different people live in parallel realities and however wins the election will be decried as illegitimate.

If Biden wins, a wave of political violence by Trump supporters which dwarves January 6th and persists is absolutely a real possibility.

If Trump wins, it appears that he has a determined authoritarian agenda borrowed from Orban which could equally generate armed resistance, albeit over a longer timescale.

Best case scenario is a Biden victory and for the Republican reaction to be a damp squib. But this seems unlikely, Trump's hold over the Party is stronger than in 2020 and moderate Republicans with a commitment to democratic norms and belief in basic reality seem to be sidelined.

true, but how did it come to be that way? from half a century of remorseless rightwing bloviation over the radio first and now on the web. it's the heckler's veto.

indeed it is, but that's not a reason not to vote biden. i cannot stress enough how psychotic things would be under a trump administration.
(i am not going to address the shitheadery that accuses me of being a biden-stan for saying this.)

Is Biden physically and mentally fit to serve another term?

Also, is this the best that the USA can do? Trump or Biden?

I agree with you, I'm hoping for a Biden win, but still worried about what kind of trouble Trump might cause.
