Donald Trump - MAGAtwat news and discussion

and also stop trying to sue the victim again as he would have to put the 83 million in escrow to do it
He's got to post a bond of $83million just to appeal. He can't wiggle out of not paying, he has property that can be seized.

I am really interested in seeing what he does next. I really can't imagine him actually keeping his mouth shut . . I don't think he gets it.
Last time
"She's not even my type", "We a have never met" - but also - "When we first met there was an immediate mutual attraction".

It will never be paid.
He has to put the money in escrow to appeal. He already did that for the first five million from the other trial.
He is already being monitored to make sure he doesn't fuck up or sell off a load of businesses so that he can avoid paying.

Stupidly he has been boasting during the trial that he has $400 million in ready cash "more than developers usually have, I'm the best developer" as part of the crap "I don't need the money" defence.
This will have almost certainly affected the amount the court has ordered him to pay.
It's thought that he actually had only about $30 mill and sold off some assets to boost that. Even before lawyers fees and court costs he is losing more money than he makes. He is not "good at biznez"

He will have to sell some more assets or they will be seized . . and they will have to be something quite substantial.

Im assuming the eyewatering amount of damages is inflated by the need to point out to the toxic man-toddler that he cant ignore the law and the courts just becasue he his Donald Trump. A fact he seems utterly incapable of grasping. If he continues to froth and rage of slag off the courts and jean carol (this is just in - of course he will) he will face criminal sanctions.

well, well

"Nikki Haley has received more than $1 million in donations to her presidential campaign since Donald Trump threatened to "permanently" bar anyone who contributed to it from the MAGA movement."

She could beat him in the primaries, with a bit of luck. The longer she is able to resist crude attempts like that, and the one yesterday where Trump tried to get the GOP to recognize him as the presumptive nominee, the weaker he will look.

You'd also hope that, the more he insults people who are standing against him, the more their supporters will say "well fuck you too" and not vote for him when the time comes. Can't really hope that republicans would be logical or consistent though. :(

I guess time will tell.

Fortunately, bearing in mind his tendency to fib, Donald Trump probably doesn't have $83m
He won't have it in liquid cash, but he will have it in assets. He is in a sticky spot though. Even without his lawyer fees and court pay outs, his empire currently costs more than it makes to run. He would have performed better as a 'business man' if he had never done anything with his inheritance.
The art of the deal my arse.

Yeah, basically this. A very rich person bought a load of buildings in New York just before a massive property price boom. He got lucky. Anyone could have done it.

Sorry, but I happen to think much of this is about giving her the money.

It was her that was raped, lied about and as a result threatened. In my book E. Jean Carroll deserves every penny she gets.
She does indeed, but the fact is that the large pay out is to hopefully teach trump a lesson, because he didn't learn it last time.
11 Million for damage to her reputation
7 million for emotional damage.

65 million is straight up punitive retribution. . . a sum paid to carol just to hit trump where it hurts.

Are you assured

no man knows the future. but of the states in the first map here

trump will switch only GA, imo. current PA polling is:

and current MI polling is:

whitmer and shapiro have been hugely effective and that'll have an impact on other races.

the media narrative has changed in the last month, as the standard economic indicators have swung way positive. i'm going to assume that the party pros have an electoral scheme for biden. last time it was, "stay in your room and we'll call you when we need you", which i admit looked dubious at the time, but he won the largest victory in presidential election history, this time it'll be economic successes, trump's increasingly unhinged rhetoric, and Dobbs.

trump ran away in 2012, lost the vote in 2016 to an unsympathetic candidate, and was crushed in 2020. but he's going to win this time, i'm told, because "septics" i guess. he could win through violence and GOP bullshittery Stefanik won’t commit to certifying 2024 election but not at the ballot box.

Yes that was the point I tried to clunkily make.

He'll not cough up a cent. He'll be be pleading to his MAGA diehards to contribute to his pursuit of freedom, liberty and yada yada ya...

Unlikely to be able to raise that amount from the maga crowd, plus he is not allowed to do that. The 63 mill is for punitive retribution.
It's not like not paying builders, they can seize his assets, it's already been through the courts. . . And he can't appeal without putting all the money up in escrow.

By what measure?
Not by share of the vote, not by electoral college, not by the lead in absolute votes (Biden was only 7.1m votes ahead compared to almost 10m for Obama in 2008).

Biden had the highest number of absolute votes cast for him, but that's something rather different - and in the same election Trump had the 2nd highest number of votes ever cast for a presidential candidate.

It proves there is a hell of a lot of support there, that there was a very strongly motivated vote for Trump (just as there was against him).

Yeah he lost to Biden that is not being questioned. Your claim it was 'the largest victory in presidential election history' is, rather Trumpia, ncobblers though isn't it.

It was a reasonably large win in terms of the share of vote (for modern elections), likewise it ended up as a decent margin in EC votes. but it was not the largest, I don't think it would even count as a crushing - compared to Reagan in 84.
