Yes, I'm laughing, but there is the danger of a new Macarthyism. What the fuck should the US President be doing, poking his ugly mug into Hollywood? As pointed out, when does he sort the price of eggs out? I thought Musk and his cronies were going to be spotlighting government waste, but he appoints these scumbags, who no doubt will get paid, with taxpayers money, to just do his fucking bidding.

While not taking it lightly (though also not currently thinking it inevitable), these are different times to the McCarthy era.

Though obviously not with the scale, reach or resources as Hollywood, there's a wider selection of viable and accessible alternatives. Whether online or other film industries, anyone who didn't want to play ball would have options (assuming things like access to the internet and passports are still a thing, of course... ).

Obviously it would be hard to walk away from something like that, and many would probably suck it up in hope of things getting better again. But, if it got really bad, I could easily see at least a small group of breakaways, whether organised or not, making films (and other media) elsewhere.

This is a CNN video about the Panama Canal. The first 5 minutes is the reporter taking us on a tour of the canal, busting Trump's lies, and explaining how Panama (without any financial contributions from the States) expanded the canal. The balance of the 8 minute video is talking heads discussing the report. I didn't watch that bit.



Don't like watching videos, then the take away is that Trump comments are rated as "liar, liar, pants on fire" and that all ships pay the same amount. Trump demanding a special rate for US ships or he will invade. However, the agreement allowing Panama to run it states that all traffic is to be treated equally.

I didn't realize that Trump's name was taken off of the hotel was done during Trump's first stint as president. I'm guessing he was not happy about that.
