Well, if I were in his shoes, I'd be equally fucked, then. Because I certainly don't ever go "hmm, now when did anyone see me wearing this shirt before?" when I'm selecting clothes from my not-very-extensive wardrobe.
There's plenty to criticise Cummings for before you have to start worrying about his clothes.
