Doing London things you've never done

I’ve never been to Borough Market

I used to work in the next street, so walked past it on the way to work - when it was still a real wholesale market.

Never got as far as working there when I was doing casualish work (I'm not sure if it was the sort of place where you needed to know someone to get any work there)

Think I've been to Maria's Cafe inside the market once since it went hipster - it's changed hands now as she has retired, but Maria had run a proper caff on park street until getting priced out.

I liked her special roll - bacon, bubble and cheese. Only works if the bubble is good and crispy. I worked the other side of London Bridge (next to Hay's) for 10 years and watched the market change beyond all reason.

yes - I worked there 1988 / 9-ish, and fairly often there was a film crew round doing something where they wanted dickensian squalor...

i worked on a trading estate on park street that southwark council had built (not that long before) to generate some jobs in a depressed area. i went past a year or so back and the site's now a fancy hotel

Great to see Tommy and sis out and about, I hope he is doing well.
AND, for my next trick, I will treat them to a ride on the cable car!

Fuck that shit. Their two cousins went off to do that after we had parted several hours later but you could not pay me to get on that thing.

Im not good with heights, but have done it strictly for the benefit of others. Try most things once.

I haven't been to Buckingham Palace, have no desire to go. Haven't seen The Mousetrap either , not arsed about that either . Never been to Madam Toussards either , again , not arsed about that either.

I saw the Mousetrap when they brought it to Dublin. I am so glad I actually got to see it. Woulsnthave a hope of seeing it now.

I did Carnival the first year I was in London, I think, so 1990. Never again. Too crowded, too many distorting sound systems.

Never been up the London Eye, or the Shard.

It's a strange place and mostly stocks mountains of tins of insanely expensive biscuits for tourists. Nothing actually worth buying as far as I could tell.
The fresh stuff downstairs, bread, veg, meat and cheese is pretty good.

I’ve never been to Borough Market despite being a bit of a foodwanker, if we’re talking nightlife, never went to Fabric.

OH worked for a while (as a temp) at Borough Market doing refuse collection/cleaning/sweeping - a bit too heavy work for him to do long-term with his back problems but it was fucking brilliant all the stuff that was thrown out due to "best before" dates.
Ate well that month or two.
