Absoluataly bananas.. and not in a good way.

The statham hits an all time low involving himself in this... mess lol

Over the top cartoon / videogame violence. It's great fun :D

And Maurice - nope. The second film starts almost exactly where the first left off

I thought the exact opposite: absolutely bananas... in a good way.

I've only seen it once mind so I don't know how it will fare on repeat viewings, but I just loved the fact it kept building on itself and getting more and more mental. The people making it clearly knew what they were making but weren't trying to be too clever or po-faced about it.

Obviously with these things it's a very subjective question as to whether it worked or not, but for me it hit the right spot :)

Keep waiting for it to be under £5 and then I'll buy it

Surely can't be worse that that one where he's a driver in France? That was terrible.
The Transporter. I thought the first one was enjoyable enough, but the second went downhill quickly. Haven't seen the third.

Its totally over the top but great fun. The bit where they are all fitting in the street is absolutely ridiculous :D

The first one was terrible. Incredible that they followed it up with sequels. I had no idea and I won't be watching them.

It's essentially Grand Theft Auto on drugs, what's not to like?

Plus he's a Londonet, proving once again the best actors are always British.

I enjoyed both Crank films, but you're gonna have trouble arguing that Statham's an example of British acting skillz :D

You must have very low expectations, standards or possibly both.
For Crank 2? Yes, I had very low expectations. But, with this sort of thing I find it's all in the execution, and Crank 2 hit the right mark (imvho).

For example, a lot of people put the original Crank in the same bracket as Shoot 'em Up, but the latter was shit because it took itself too seriously and tried to be 'cool' rather than just have fun, and when it did try to have fun it was 'ironic, hey look at us being all kooky' fun. Attitude fail.

Crank and Crank 2 just enjoyed themselves and threw everything at the screen. Not everything stuck, but a lot of it did.

Someone told me that Crank 2 was soo bad that I shouldn't consider watching it. It didn't even rate a 'soo bad its good'. Its just really really bad.

I ignored their advice and watched it to see how bad it was.

They were right.

I couldn't get on with Crank, it's the type of film that plays like a computer game, but Statham was fine in it. He knows exactly what type of film he is in and plows through it like a tank. You know that this is someone not to be fucked with and that's exactly what's required. As action stars go, he's perfect and I don't know what people expect from this type of thing in terms of acting. King Lear ? He's also good in The Bank Job, in a more traditionally dramatic role which shows that he has range.

I thought Crank was excellent - really interesting ways they referenced computer games, used the filming/editing style to communicate his metabolic changes, moved from one location to another. Crank 2 was cash-in trash. Pure generic DTV throwaway guff.

Enjoyable OTT guff mind. I'll probably see no. 3 :D

Fair enough. I was referring to The Transporter. But either way, it helps if you set out with low expectations. Some films generally regarded by people as being great films were a big let down for me due to my high expectations.

Oh yeah, sorry. Got distracted between quoting you and replying to you so went off about the wrong film :D

Meh, like I said Transporter was enjoyable enough, but I'm pretty sure I haven't been able to sit through it all again.

I like transporter, and the sequels even thiugh they are duff.... the stathem is a good laugh on most occasions but crank 2 was just offensive!! it offended my missis so much and that probably ruined it more for me, but it shouldant have been that offensive in the first place, some of it was disgusting!

The first crank was crap but enjoyable in some ways just for being silly.

Crank 2?? sorry peep's im beyond it lol

Yea it was like a video game but f*ckin hell! its the kind of film that i imagine psychotic teenage in-and-out-of prison potheads would laugh at

I've never seen a film with Jason Statham in it where he has dragged it down. He is a most competent film actor who plays to his strengths with his choice of roles. One might not enjoy the films he ends up in, but that's not the same as him being at fault.

I would concur with that - I felt Shoot 'Em Up just did not pull me into the story in the same way as Crank - it felt turgid, despite the migraine-inducing editing; I felt conscious that this was a film all the way through, and the pacing felt thoroughly artificial. Whereas the Crank films, for all their silliness and iffiness, dragged me into the story from the outset, and demanded that I sprint along with it to the finishing tape.

However silly, stupid or unrealistic a film, I want it to make me suspend my disbelief for the duration - whether it's a drama, a comedy, a cartoon or a puppet show. I don't want to find myself checking IMDb to see if the director helmed many episodes of Diagnosis: Murder a third of the way in because it's dragging so much.
