Calling all women and allies in Brixton! London

I’m looking to organize my first Women’s March in Brixton, and I need your help. The march will call attention to street-based sexual harassment, domestic violence, and sexual violence against women—issues that remain alarmingly high in our community.
It’s been three years since Sarah Everard’s tragic death in Lambeth, and yet women are still not safe in public spaces. We cannot remain silent any longer.
If you’d like to help me organize this march or want to participate, I would love to hear from you. Let’s come together to make our voices heard and demand safer streets, accountability, and real change for women.
This is a community effort, and I can’t do it alone—so if you’re passionate about this cause or have experience with organizing, please reach out.

You might want to put this in Brixton forum

Are you in a particular political group?

Yes i absolutely want to do another one of these right thru the hotspot areas unbelievable this was done in 2021 and is still such a massive issue

No im not

Just asking as the early Sarah Everard demo was partly organised through two Labour Cllrs.

A letter signed by Labour Cllrs is here

Includes Labour Cllrs

My Ward Cllr Scarlett OHara is signed the letter.

She is one of the two Cllr Windrush Ward that covers Brixton.

I've dealt with her before and she will take an interest.

Some of the other Labour Cllrs in Lambeth who signed the letter are still Cllrs.

Depends on how you want to go on this.

Reclaim These Streets are more on the direct action side of things. And helped to get the Sarah Everard demo happen when police said no at last minute,

I used to live in Brixton from early 80s.

I don't now but go there regularly to shop and use the Rec.

There has been some issues outside Brixton Rec and in Brixton Station road. Some of it related imo to Network Rail pricing out business leading to situation with empty shops.

There is low level drug dealing and ASB/noise issues

There are ASB issues but imo market area is not better or worse than it used to be.

The other issue is that the Council encouraging Brixton as an entertainment area hasn't helped.

The central Brixton area is well covered by CCTV as well.

I can Private message you my issue if you want more details and can assist maybe ?

'Women and Girls' as a group are mentioned in the Lambeth Equality and Justice 'Golden thread' . Perhaps contact the councils E&J dept to see if they could support or publicise it.

You must realise that you experience the area as a bloke. When justagirl says it isn't safe you must accept that she doesnt have the same experience of the space as you do

I said no better or worse.

I hear different things from different people. Male and female.

There have been particular problems around Brixton station road and the Rec as I said.

Things have been done to address at least some of this. Including better lighting and extra security at the Rec to deal with problems.

Also from what Ive heard some individuals have been banned from central Brixton due to ASB.

Drug dealing and taking drugs around Rec and Brixton station road has caused issue.

I was offered drugs last week when walking home late. First time for ages

I do talk to wide range of people and people have ( male and female) different perceptions of how safe they feel in central Brixton.

Some have concerns that dealing with these issues will lead to people being pushed out of Brixton. When these people need help.

I few months ago had fairly aggressive confrontation in Brixton station road which I managed to get away from.

Also witnessed full on fight one morning in Brixton station road when I was in Cafe Max.
