Bye bye MEAT! How will the post-meat future look?

How reluctant are you to give up your meat habit?

I drive past a pig farm on my way to work each day and that's just a small scale outdoor operation. It stinks the whole village out. Fuck knows what that place must smell like.
Pigshit is one of the least pleasant of the shits, but pretty decent fert all the same.

Its weird, nobody on this thread has ever supported intensive pig and poultry production, but here we are anyway.....

In other news, one of the first life cycle analysis of cultured meat finds that, depending on production method used, it could be 4-25 times higher than median beef production (using Poore and Nemecek's overstated figures, too)

Risner, D., Kim, Y., Nguyen, C., Siegel, J.B. and Spang, E., 2023. Environmental impacts of cultured meat: A cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment. bioRxiv, pp.2023-04.

Also, appears to have the potential to be much worse in the long term:
Lynch, J. and Pierrehumbert, R., 2019. Climate impacts of cultured meat and beef cattle. Frontiers in sustainable food systems, p.5.

I wonder if there actually would be enough space to accommodate an evolutionary relapse to vegetable diets.
Relapse how far?
Hominins have been apex predators for at least 2 million years
Lay press explanation here

Journal article to which it pertains:

Miki Ben‐Dor, Raphael Sirtoli, Ran Barkai. The evolution of the human trophic level during the Pleistocene. American Journal of Physical Anthropology, 2021; DOI: 10.1002/ajpa.24247

I think the fact that there are no extant hominins aside from sapiens (us) confuses people, and they look to chimpanzees, with whom we shared a common ancestor about 9 million years ago, who also hunt food (monkeys, for example), and eat insects etc as well as fruits.

An actual relapse into the vegetable? .... seems to be already happening!! I mean, I don't know, my feeling is the focus now needs to be on extending the glide downwards and De-growth policies, like less stuff. Incidentally, De-growth London has its launch event later this month. The Brits, though generally considered a reserved lot can get very fired up about things and these people seem very aware of getting things right from the get go. Our outgoing Mayor and his team have done a lot of work on eco foot printing analysis so I will be watching with breathless anticipation...

In other news that well known peer reviewed journal, the Gruaniad, reminds us that fossil fuel production can be a far worse methane producer than cattle

They make out that they're world-leaders on this subject with their 'recently revealed' findings. Hmmm. I could have sworn we were discussing exactly this subject on this thread last year. :hmm:

Given that methane emissions from gas leaks are very certainly higher than most official figures allow, and given that we know the total amount of methane in the atmosphere, a readjustment is needed to the figures for other sources of methane. If methane from gas production is higher, then methane from other sources must be lower. The Graun should be going back and adding erratum corrections to a number of their previous articles on the subject.

Wouldn't it be more of a relapse into a singular cellular organism or a cosmic atom?

Are you British? Genuine Q.

I get a whiff every now and again. Anyway, back on topic, that was not the impetus to give up meat.
Yes I realise that but do you think you smell better and less unpleasant now you don't eat meat or do you still smell of biff but it's just a different flavour?

Smell is largely the product of diet; I don't eat cow....
I'm not sure. I've spent many a morning sat on the thrown telling myself I've not eaten anything that smells like that.

Do you think vegetarians and vegans smell better than meat eaters then?

He's a bit of a bellend though.

* orders a lifetime's supply of tofu *
He's much loved by the cubs and scouts. I remember my son being at Jamboree and he came in a helicopter to tell them all how spiffing they all were.

Apparently when he hugged and kissed the akela of the Chester 22nd troop on the cheek she went as red as a prime fillet steak. The scouts were talking about it for weeks. They even did the old "up a tree k.I double S I. N. G." Rhyme at the Christmas gang show.

His Island house that he lives in looks grand too. Think it was on telly recently.

He's like a walking talking money machine that boy. It's not a wonder he can afford to live on steak
