Bye bye MEAT! How will the post-meat future look?

How reluctant are you to give up your meat habit?

No, that's not what I said at all. Please don't make stuff up.
The point here is obvious, no? There's no such thing as 'the global meat industry'. If you live here in the UK, buying British lamb/mutton can be an ethically sound choice from a sustainability point of view. You think all raising of animals for food is wrong. Fine. But don't conflate the two issues.

I've said it before but I'll say it again here briefly. There are different levels at play here that are linked but distinct.

1. Do you think it is ethically acceptable to farm animals for food? If NO, stop here. If YES, continue to 2.

2. Do you think the animals that are being raised for food are being treated acceptably? If NO, stop here. If YES, continue to 3.

3. Do you think the environmental impact of the farming of the animals is sustainable? If NO, stop here. If YES, continue to 4.

4. Buy the meat.

Regarding British lamb, personally I make it through to No. 4. very easily. For many other meat items, there are significant problems at 2. and 3. I don't set myself up as someone who can't do better, not by any means, and I'm sure most of us here don't. But by fuck, when you get into your vegan policeman routine, you make it hard to have that conversation.

Going to end up with you and Jeff in a mutual love in at this rate
Forgive me if I find it worthless engaging with someone who thinks a debate involving the global impact of meat industry is best served by pictures of their meaty dinner, random meat recipes and childish references to cabbage and 'Mr Air Miles'.

Breaking the terms of mutual ignore
That's what, four people you've put on ignore on this thread now?

Yeah, it's all our fault.
The thing is LBJ , the cress-flake cheesemonger proclaimed he'd put me on ignore twice previously on this thread. The last time was "Forever" because I'd "Lost it".. You know the old "I'm not listening to you because you don't suit my agenda and you must have some sort of mental problem" routine.

Personally I don't find that an issue, I don't enjoy my interactions with him, he's a dishonest argumentative prick at the best of times. If he's not prepared to engage in discussion with me in good faith which, he hasn't since day one on this thread, I don't mind him putting me on ignore, I'd actually prefer it. On his own, self entitled decision, he's not engaging with me so why bother reading my posts if he supposedly has me on ignore, that is unless he's not got much will power? This is clearly the issue here. He has us all on ignore because he doesn't like what we say but he can't help himself just in case he can have a snidy post that you can't respond to because, wait for it, he has you on ignore. And we're the childish ones :D.

What he's done now though is put us on mutual ignore (Forced me to not see his posts) which disables me from replying to all his cut and paste shite and stopped me from calling it out for the repetitive drawl that it is. It's a complete and utter abuse of his moderating powers. Something some of his moderators have previously acknowledged to me that they find uncomfortable to deal with.

It's not a wonder long serving members of this community are throwing the towel in on the back of his acidic posting manner and leaving the place. Cabbage is a very worthy complimentary side dish to the meat thread. The last interaction he had with someone on that subject he made himself look like a cunt and the very valued member of this community who put a lot into this board hasn't posted since..

Play by the sword darling, die by the sword. Much of your interactions with people on this thread are in the realms of childish behaviour. Is insulting people your coping strategy?

I hear you're big in Japan. You forgot to mention that part of your dad band tour you massive hypocrite :D You've got a carbon footprint like a Sasquatch and all that cabbage isn't helping your methane output.

Get a fucking grip.

It'll be no loss not being able to read your shite on this board but you've abused your authority on this thread again.

Bye veggie.

They'd make good company for each other. Two deluded fools who think because they eat Tofu they're Mother Teresa.

Obviously the sandals would be made of thin air though.

Honestly. A warning for breaking the terms of something I have no idea of what it entails.

You really have lost the plot mate.

Welcome to Vladimir Urban's Bulletin Board :D Talk about childish :(
Tbf to Editor he has told you before though it has been a few years

Tonight I'm having shot rib from these guys.

I've skimmed off the dripping to make pastry so what's left over goes in a set of pies and then in the freezer for easy tea when we're both working late and need a ready meal.

Someone else will be on the hunt for a cheap bag of cabbage.
Theres a few people about up and down the country with Red Polls - the milk has a high protein content and so is ideal for cheesemaking. The article doesn't say id they are also milking them and what they do with the milk ( unless I missed it).

Weirdly, Id been thinking about trying to see if I could do a very similar thing and really recreate a dual purpose breed. Id wondered if I wasn't over thinking it and I should just cross beef shorthorn with dairy shorthorn, but where's the fun in that?
Also, itd depend on the kind of ground I could rent - if it was hard, maybe a whitebred shorthorn x jersey?

I think its not a very commercial project, either so that won't help getting any kind of funding.

Ive said it more than once, but I have no idea what I'm talking about in comparison to some Guardian reading London based tech guy.

The meat industry has both the globes biggest company (Cargill) and teeny tiny operations of a family with a few animals (yes, even in the industrialised west).

I'll enquire about the dairy side.

I think its a bit sad - this place used to be very inclusive whilst also having robust debates.

I gave up on him over the whole Vandana Shiva thing.
How someone can call themselves remotely left whilst dismissing out of hand an award winning woman ecologist who mainly lives in India because they'd dared not to conform to some middle aged white blokes behavioural expectations because they'd daned to grant Russell Brand an interview is fucking beyond.

Putting everyone who disagrees with you on ignore is not a good look. Being rude to posters then enforcing mod discipline on them when they're rude back is a fucking terrible look. Editor should have a think about all the accusations he's levelled at others regarding agendas, being industry shills, being science deniers and all the rest of it. Not to mention the shitposting of links to articles he himself hasn't read beyond the headlines, which clogs up the thread with crap.

If he wants to behave like that, whatever. Don't care. But don't be a mod in the thread at the same time. It doesn't work.

"Take it to the feedback forum" will be the reply. No. I'll say it here where it is happening.

That’s the modus operandi though. It’s always been like this.

I voted first option as I ve been veggie for most of my adult life but would have liked to vote for the last option also as no way will eating meat ever not be a thing.
I believe its natural for Humans to eat meat and if you went out and killed it for yourself, family and/or friends then fair enough but the way its 'produced' by those farmer-cunts is fucking shocking

Sadly the worldwide meat industry is going in the exact opposite direction, with more and more vile factory farms and megafarms being built.
You're going soft on Cid saying its OK to slaughter a young animal, because it has had 'high welfare' during its short life is something only a Cunt would would regard in such terms
