Burger Thread. Yes!

this is going to be my tea tonight, the hallowe'en special. I shall report back. must say I'm intrugued about the brains...

THE ZOMBURGER!!...!!!!!!!!

An 8oz Pork, Parmesan, and Mustard Burger. Topped with Scrambled Pork Brains & Egg (or just scrambled egg, for the weak-hearted) Served on a Toasted Brioche Bun with Lettuce, Tomato, and a 'Blood' Red Onion Relish. Accompanied by Sweet Potato Pumpkin Faces, Fake Brain Coleslaw, and Cheesy Popcorn Brains
I think it's dangerous to eat brains. Even David Chang or some other hard as nails food nut won't eat brains.

Have you already had it?

I dunno where this thing of putting burgers in brioche buns came from. It's part of this trend where you can't leave anything alone if there's a fancier-sounding version of it you can use instead, the better to justify an increased mark up.

You can't even get cheese and onion crisps any more, you have to get mature Taw valley cheddar (I grew up in the Taw valley, and I can confirm that cows there are the same as cows everywhere else) and oven-roasted onion crisps. Hand fried crisps of course, although nobody ever explains how any mortal human can hold boiling hot oil in their hands for long enough to fry anything properly. Soon the packet will feature an illustrated biography of the onions as well I expect.

With crisps and stuff it's just a minor annoyance, but when you get to something that can't really be embellished, like an ordinary white bread burger bun, they have to replace it with something posh-sounding even if it tastes worse than thing they replaced which in the case of cunts putting burgers on brioche it undoubtedly will.

Every little bit of every fucking thing has to come with a flurry of qualifiers, nobody does their customers the service of calling a spade a spade and a salad a fucking salad. There must be whole committees beavering away in offices trying to think of new names for the same stuff, and recommending the abolition of anything they can't adequately rebrand. And those people get paid more than you do, just to spend all day finding new ways to talk to people like they're idiots. It must end. Serve me a burger on a brioche bun and I will shoot you in the fucking face. A line must be drawn somewhere.

Is it fuck. Anyway yeah, I've eaten it. It was delicious, although I'm not totally certain what the brains added other than a frission of horror film.

it was in the scramble, so not really.

anyway, I took a photo for frank. check out the lovely brioche bun, frank!

I know some people consider it to be a pastry but it's made with flour and is leavened so I'm calling it bread. Wouldn't want it anywhere near a burger, mind

I made the best burgers the other day but failed to capture their glory before gobblining them down.

Mixed up the mince with chopped jalepenos and crispy onions, pressed it in my burger press (car boot, 10p or something  ) added a layer of shropshire blue then pressed down another layer to make a stuffed quarter pounder. Grilled till done then served with french mustard, lettuce, tomato slices, gherkin slices, random sauce, fresh soft bun and some kind of leaves.

IT WAS AMAZING.

Had a few bits of things around t'other day so made some experimental sliders. Took Heston's approach of 'pressing' the mince rather than mashing it into patties, to keep the texture... not too sure if I was that keen on it tbh, I think I prefer a coarse grind over either extreme. Next was some different toppings. Tried one with melted cheddar, with a homemade red-pepper and jalepeno salsa, onion rings and mayo, one with cheese slice, lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard and BBQ sauce.

Only had little buns, hence me going for the sliders. Lightly toasted them, weren't bad.

End result. Ok burgers. Neither that great, but still something to do with a bit of spare mince and a few pointless little buns :)

We went to Buddies for tea tonight and I had the Atomic. Burger with fire hot sauce & jalapenos on cheese.
The patty itself was as delicious as ever - juicy, tasty and perfectly cooked.
I just went with the standard burger bun this time, instead of the brioche, and I was a little disappointed as the bun went soggy and fell apart too quickly :(

My goodness you people are so predictable. As soon as the McRib comment was posted I knew my name would come up and the whole shill accusation would re-emerge. I’ve actually watched in amusement reading your wild conspiracy theories and was more than happy to let the myth grow.

OK what shall we address first? I was sent a link to this forum by a very good friend of 30+ years saying “I’m sure you’ve seen this” (which I hadn’t) and it was great to find like-minded people sharing their stories and photos of burger related adventures so obviously I was keen to contribute and also share my website as I thought people would be interested.

Firstly someone kept banging on about the ® I use in my name (which we are in the process of registering I’ll add) and then someone else said something along the lines of “please don’t turn this forum into a blah promoting your own website” etc etc so I thought “do you know what I can’t be bothered anymore”.

I think I came back to post some links to the My Burger promotion on my website and yes they do contain McDonald’s videos because I feature in them quite a bit and I think anyone showing in official McDonald’s videos would want to show them off a bit. Oh I forget, that corporation is the most evil entity ever and people must not ever admit to eating or liking any of their products.

So a McDonald’s shill? Well I am 100% certain a multi-billion global corporation such as McDonald’s doesn’t require one individual to help promote their products. Look at their recent social media activity around the McRib. As of writing, Facebook McRib post has 5,261 shares and 22,758 likes. Twitter McRib tweet has 2.4k retweets and 2k favourites – far bigger numbers than I could ever expect or hope for from my own accounts.

Of course I must be a shill for McDonald’s because I feature so many reviews. The fact is that McDonald’s is very, very popular. And my website is primarily designed to review new high street promotional burgers alongside more in-depth, personal accounts of independent and gourmet places. And as a webmaster I am very keen on page views so it’s a bit of a no brainer to review the latest McDonald’s products as people are going to see their advertising and search for these products on the internet and be directed to my website. But why so many compared to Burger King?

I think BK in 2014 have released about 12 new burgers. Compare that with McDonald’s which I believe is in the region of about 22 maybe so it’s always going to be more. And McDonald’s attracts more attention and page views as well. Look on Twitter at the number of tweets for McPizza Pepperoni or any of the My Burger creations. Compare that to how many people are tweeting about the Meat Lovers Whopper or Quattro Cheese Whopper.

So I throw in some independent reviews to hide the guise of being a shill for McDonald’s. Let’s take a look at the last 3 months of reviews featured on my website. Now this isn’t written by a team. It’s me, my girlfriend and a person I have met once who does not work full time and enjoys a good burger and writing about it. We also have other contributors who are random people who show an interest in submitting a review and I encourage them to participate because it saves my wallet and waistline and I can’t get around the whole of the UK like I would like to.

Anyway back to those review stats for the last 3 months:

McDonald’s 8
Burger King 6
KFC 1
Other High Street 8
Independent or very small chain 20

I recently reviewed a new burger place opened in Worcester called burgerworks (Byron Hamburgers is opening in the City in 2016) and I couldn’t rave on about the place highly enough. I even thought about posting a link here but thought “better not”. Just read it and you’ll see the effort I go to writing about an independent (if it is good). In fact after reading that review another Worcester place invited us to go for a burger and I’ve just found some very interesting places in Hereford. And I enjoy these places but the reviews are never as popular in terms of views compared to the McDonald’s reviews. It’s just the way it is. Sorry.

I never engage with anyone on here. I posted pictures of my own creation, the PFT which had pulled pork on it etc and talked about what ingredients I used and how I cooked it etc. I even invited numerous people to write reviews for my website (which someone did!!) enabling them to have a better platform to share their burger story and pictures.

So I think that was about it. McDonald’s shill. I’m quite certain their sales figures do not have any variation if I don’t tweet about a particular burger and/or give one of their products a bad review. Get real.

I hope you don’t take this as me trying to defend myself because I really, really do not feel the need to but I thought I would drop you a line to dispel the myth once and for all.

And please. If anyone would like to continue this conversation away from the bright lights of this forum then please by all means contact me on Twitter @Burger_Lad and I’ll gladly discuss further.

Right I really must go as I am in a meeting in 10 minutes with Mark Hawthorne where we are going to see just how many subliminal messages we can get on the website trying to activate something in your brains to go and buy more of our, I mean McDonald’s burgers.

Thank you.

Fair enough Burger Lad, but I think it was the above that made me suspicious.
You've joined this forum but only ever posted on this thread, there's a lot more to us than burgers.
Some of us quite like pizza and other foods too :D

Had burger cravings this last 2 weeks so had two. First to the Gourmet Burger Company. The burger was OK at best and had the skinny fries. I like crispy bits in proper chips, I like fries, thought they might work. Not impressed, not enough of anything to then, like eating virtual fries.

Saturday I met a mate at Honest Burgers in Brixton Village. Fantastic burgers, pretty good coleslaw and the best chips I've eaten in years. Nearly went to the Joint for a meat fest but so pleased we didn't.

Still haven't made my own, might try it when the bbq comes out again next year.

So what your basically saying is it's not about advertising but page views (which also equals advertising revenue given the amount of adds on your site).

Not being funny but this is urban. What did you expect?

I have to say your reviews do strike me as having a McDonalds bias. Maybe you've had better "chain" experiences than me but slating a burger king burger while wearing a McDonalds uniform, and using an ad provider that says you are part of a "social media influencer that's passionate about food" does you no favours.

I like your reviews and would love for them to continue but getting into a hissy fit at the first sign of criticism probably means there's a hidden agenda. I hope I'm wrong....

If a man is in the pay of the clown I can only consider his verdicts on other chains biased. He took the Clowns shilling, now we must sadly judge him in light of that. :(

I had a chicken burger last night, I got a breaded chicken breast and had in a sesame seed bun with edam slices and mayo
