Burger Thread. Yes!

I have just come back from a trip to the US.
It was work and mainly in NJ but I got a free weekend in Manhattan out of it. The company I work for are awesome like that, if you are away for a weekend they will try to put you somewhere cool.
I had three burgers in the 2 weeks that I was there. Each time I was asked how I would like it cooked I had medium rare each time.

So before I went I tried to research the best burger in Manhattan and received tons of suggestions but this place looked a good bet: http://www.paulsburgers.com/
I knew as soon as I went in that I wasn't going to be disappointed, real 50's diner style layout with a counter, tables and a waitress that called me sugar.
I ordered the Eastsider, which is their specialty, along with sweet potato fries.
The picture from my phone doesn't do it justice. It was fantastic, it tasted like high quality beef and was really juicy. The bacon, mushroom and onions were also really tasty.
The bun was just some crappy generic white bread and I didn't eat it. Sweet potato fries were crispy and perfect.
Will deffo go back here next time I am in NYC. Almost worth the 30 hour journey.

Thanks for your burger updates - that looks delicious!

I tried Honest Burger, Brixton branch, for the first time (birthday treat). I have to say I was massively dissapointed. I paid £8.50 for the cheeseburger and rosemary seasoned fries.

Cheeseburger:
I opted for a cheddar cheese medium rare burger. It looked really nice on the plate- good size, juicy, meaty etc. But when it came to taste the burger was was severely lacking. The burger patty was massively under seasoned, the bun a little on the dry side (despite it having absorbed some of the burger juice).

Fries:
The rosemary was a nice touch, but the taste of frying oil was a little strong.

Would I go there again? No.
Score: 6/10

Apologies for the obligatory instagram photo of burger + chips

I had a very good pub burger last night at the Phoenix in Denmark Hill. The meat was juicy and tasty, the bun wasn't too big and bready - it was good. So good, in fact, that I ate the whole thing despite being massively full after eating only half.

Tried Five Guys in Covent Garden about six months ago. Wasn't that impressed. Burger was reasonable, but the 'restaurant' had the ambience of a railway station food court. :(

Had a horse burger in Slovenia during the summer. Was the best burger I've had in years.

Last christmas ma got in some zebra steaks from the weird meat man. They did not end up getting used so I later made zebra cheese burgers. I found the meat incredibly rich and yet ver springy, almost rubbery but not in a bad way. Does horse taste similar?

No idea why i didnt post this in here, but i posted it in another thread the other day....

anyway it was £10:95 and just awesome.

Heavy going but the taste mix worked really well.

Death on a stick.

I may be covering old ground here, but.... Cronuts... More death on a stick.

Oh Em Gee. Amaze with added balls.

To be fair you do give McD's much greater credit than most burger lovers do, who usually see them as bottom of the burger chain...chain :hmm: but they do come up with some good ideas, if only they sorted their damn patties out.

If you win this btw, people are going to be suspicious :D What's the crack? Do they choose the winner or do the UK public choose it?

Did you tell them their patties needed sorting? Is it possible to say 'as part of my burger, I want a patty made from fresh mince, in the store'? Or is the meat not part of the deal?

MacDonalds meat is terrible, I once worked for the chain and its really bad quality. Would only bother eating it once every few years or so (with children, or when very drunk). I dont get BL's enthusiasm for them (unless they are sponsoring his website, or something :hmm:.)

I sat behind someone on the train tonight who was eating his burger (McDonalds, fyi) UPSIDE-DOWN! The bit of the bun with the seeds on was on the bottom. Is this a thing that people do and I've just never noticed it before? I'm actually really struggling to come to terms with having witnessed such wrongness.
