Brentwood Town vs Dulwich Hamlet - Tuesday 12th April

ok, fair enough, what did you mean then? It did sound quite a lot like you said you care about racism more than poptyping, as they could "shut it out" or "turn the other cheek" and because of the way you chose to handle it.

Turning the other cheek, shutting it out, not confronting it are all the same thing really. I don't mean that the racism affects you, me or poptyping (I'm not entirely sure who he or she is) any more or less, I just handle things that piss me off or upset me quite differently.

I'm not a pacifist. I'm not able to walk away from confrontation or goading. Quite the opposite in fact.

Generally anyone displaying an England flag, in their garden, in their window, is a massive racist.

Also why would the welsh be loving England flags anyway.
Sorry, what a load of shit! I have PROUDLY displayed England flags at football, the patron saint of many countries and places. To me it symbolises what a great country we can be, and the inclusiveness of England & the UK.
It only becomes racist if you accept our national; flags have been hijacked by the far-right minority!

turning the other cheek suggests forgiveness, shutting it out tends to mean not allowing it to effect you which is nealry impossible if you ent white or grown up with racist abuse and confronting it doesnt have to be violence or goading back (tbf I probably would shout back if i heard, and have in the past, but again i have the privilege of being a big fat white skin head man) confronting it can be reporting it through the official channels esp if you are unable to solve things with violence due to any number of reasons.

yes everyone handles things differently, i just suppose those words you used as explained above came quite dismissively/without much thought of why the other person may not want to or be able to handle it the way you would.

Racism, Sexism, homophobia ent acceptable and all of these were reported on tuesday - but it is great that people have worked so hard to make sure it ent acceptable or like that at Dulwich which has lead to us getting a big diverse crowd, the COMPLETE opposite of what Brentwood have. And i know what i would rather have after going there.

When you say "we" flew a parliamentary flag of Cromwell forces during the English Civil War. Do you actually mean you brought said flag, put it in Tom's hand and took a photo?!
Actually 'we' as in it was behind our goal. I'm sure some of fans don't approve of all of the flags we have that you, or others might claim as 'we'...but that's life eh?

Aaaah got it, areas with Conservative Mps are racist. Thanks for clearing that up

I see you lack nuance. 2010 3 percent vote BNP. 4 percent vote UKIP. 1 percent vote English Democrats (for when two racist parties aren't enough). 2015 16.8 percent vote UKIP. Not to mention there will be plenty of racists voting Conservative and Labour.

I repeat Mishi, generally anyone displaying a flag in their garden or a window is a massive racist. You obviously are not generally. And as you are older than me, when were flags hijacked by the far-right minority because it has been that way in Brentwood since I was born (1980)?

Not at all, your asinine resposne was a link to a wikipedia page, hardly revealing is it?

Can you let me know what arbitrary percentage of the vote share UKIP must achieve for an area to be seen as a “Hotbed of racism” in your eyes?

is that question mark there cos you don't know wen you were born, you really are a man of mystery

It says I'm from England, I'm proud to be English & I'm proud to be Dulwich Hamlet!

That's fine, and there's obviously nothing wrong with being proud to be English or Hamlet. Personally, I don't understand why people are always so keen to show how proud they are to be English at a non-league football match (or League matches). I don't see how your nationality is relevant in that context.

Bring back Billy Crook!!!!!
Kenny Beaney is similar but better.
love the window shot!

That staring woman looks fucking terrifying.
Never mind her, what about Editor poking his long lens in through her window at night!

But this is in an football ground in England... Not in someone's garden etc...
Most gardens probably have a better playing surface than that ground.

Out of interest, if you heard monkey noises, ... Why not confront them? Keeping quiet at the game then bringing it up here does the sum total of fuck all to solve it
I thought that was what I heard, but wasn't sure. I only mentioned it because Scolly referred to hearing unspecified 'noises' at the same time. 30 or 40 years ago you more or less expected to hear that sort of thing at football matches - thankfully it's now so rare I tend to thnk I must have been mistaken, especially as it wasn't clearly audible above our own supporters' chanting.

The thing is it's easy for someone in a position of privilege to assume they must have been mistaken or that we've sorted racism and it's no longer a problem. Similar could be said of sexism at football. We haven't sorted it and it still needs to be reported and dealt with appropriately.

I for one would not feel able to go steaming in on someone chanting racist abuse - it doesn't mean I don't care.

Forget the percentage, anywhere they came in the top 2 places is surely a massive red flag, but see what you want to see.

What evidence would you accept? Seriously, how and when have these people appeared?

UKIP came second in 120 constituencies, are all of these places a "hotbed of racism" in your eyes?

yes

Esp when people say racism doesn't really exist anymore or its not a massive problem - seeing numbers like this on the rise is quite worrying.

I wouldn’t worry, I anticipate the number of second places they achieve will be cut significantly by 2020.

2015 was their chance to elect a handful of MPs and cement themselves as a credible HoC party and they’ve failed. Post-election they’ve done nothing to suggest they’ve got their act together (quite the opposite actually)

This is possible, but then the racists will vote for other parties, whether Conservative or Labour. They will still exist. And its very bizarre to be a racist in a place where everyone looks like you? Who are they hating on in Brentwood?

I don't think it's as simple as that.

In Brentwood, the Libeal Democrats have long bene the “Opposition” party the “anyone but Pickles” vote (they ran the council for years).

This vote collapsed and the UKIP vote increased by a similar percentage point. So while I don’t doubt a large number of the UKIP voters would be racist, a sigmnificant number of them might've just been protesting against Pickles

A reasonable argument.
