Brentwood Town vs Dulwich Hamlet - Tuesday 12th April

Hey Guys,

Few Things:

Brentwood is a hotbed of racism.

I've had family in and around Brentwood for the past 20 years, calling it a hotbed of racism (even if in jest) is just plain wrong, and the kind of generalisation and prejudice that I thought DHFC was suppose to stand against. The fans that were there on Tuesday making noises and being cunts? Sure, call them racists and report them, but as you know from their home attendances, the entire town was not represented.

Also, I've just ordered a fuck off massive Union Jack that i'm going to write 'DULWICH LOYAL' onto and bring it to all games. Everyone ok with that?

Brentwood is a hotbed of racism. I am not joking. I am no against generalisations, but if I stood on the high street and asked what Brentwood be a better place with only white people that are born in England, I would get a high proportion of yes.

I look forward to the video of you doing that, along with detailed information of the people you talk to.

1 - Racism hasn't gone away just because it (for the most part) no longer corresponds to the concrete forms it took in the 1970s.
2 - PT is right to make the point that not all 'flaggy people' are racists, but I think it would be dishonest to deny there's some significant overlap.
3 - Speaking as someone who is mostly English, quite a lot Scottish, and a little bit Northern Irish protestant, I've never felt the need to express any of these identities with a flag at a football match. Out of genuine interest, what do you feel is being compromised if you don't get to do these things? I mean, it's hardly as if mainstream British identities have suffered from the kind of repression (often inflicted by the British) which might make a show of resistant 'pride' out of displaying national insignia. To me, there's a pointed difference between displaying (say) a Basque flag and an English - or even a Scottish, because they 'did' Empire too - one, and kinds of 'pride' signified there.
4 - Again, speaking as someone with a bluenose, NI protestant family background, I can't help but feel Northern Ireland might be a slightly better place if English football fans stopped appropriating loyalism. Don't @ me.

But it was still a comment made at the expense of Canvey residents? No?
No, it was factual reporting that formed part of a balanced documentary photo feature. I'm surprised that you seem to be having such problems understanding the concept.

There was me thinking you were implying Canvey had a problem with racists. Thanks for clearing that up

The poor residents of Canvey. Its almost as though p&m is suggesting you wrote the crap 'graffiti' to besmirch their good name.

I thought he lifted it from Google Images myself
Here's an idea. Instead of continuing to bask in ignorance and making more stupid comments, why not educate yourself and read the link that was included with the image?

Here it is again: Canvey Island photos – sea wall murals, Concord Beach, a Dr Feelgood bench, sea views and racism

And then you can consider apologising for the accusation that I'd "lifted" the image or tried to imply that Canvey had a problem with racists (although there clearly is a problem there with at least one racist).
