Brentwood Town vs Dulwich Hamlet - Tuesday 12th April

Official complaints to the club? I'd like to think they'd take them seriously but let's not hold our breath eh? There's a fuckload more of us than them, as is the case at virtually every ground we go to. If a local fucknut does kick off when confronted, they'll go all meek like when we all turn.
Or it turns into a big punch up and everyone gets thrown out, and Hamlet get tarred with the same brush. Twats like this want the aggro. That's why they act like morons. They want to provoke a ruck because it's all they've fucking got.

Far better to put in the official complaints and shift the responsibility to the club itself, and not visiting supporters.

we used to fly st Georges flag (all be it actually a parliamentary flag of Cromwell forces during the English Civil War) no prob with that or straight St Georges flag or union jack or for that matter Welsh, Scottish or Irish or Allies in WW2 (at Dulwich Hamlet we love flags)

EDL tried putting a St Georges flag at Bromley Fc with Bromley Division on it - the club declined to allow it to be displayed

When you say "we" flew a parliamentary flag of Cromwell forces during the English Civil War. Do you actually mean you brought said flag, put it in Tom's hand and took a photo?!

That's where I think you're wrong. One person wants to act the billy big bollocks, put him on the floor and the rest won't want to know.

Still Twitter is stronger than the fist these days.

Maybe. Maybe not. Maybe his mates will want to get involved and then you've got a big ruck taking place and Hamlet fans being associated with violence, regardless of the rights and wrongs of the situation. Been there and done that in my Cardiff City days and I'm well over it now.

It seems a quarter of the English people think that way and with racist morons like the EDL waving it around with gusto, it's hardly surprising.

St George's flag is a racist symbol says a quarter of the English

Brentwood Division of the EDL

24% wow, I don’t doubt that for people of a certain age the Union flag brings flashbacks of the NF marching through town.

For the vast majority of people, myself included, when they see someone with a national flag their first response isn’t “ Violent racist” it’s “Oh look there’s someone with a flag”. If you’re in the minority who can’t seem to separate the two then don’t bring national flags to football/don’t put one in your front garden.

Personally I think they’re tacky and wouldn’t do it myself but I’m not going to begrudge someone else choosing to bring one just as long as it’s not used in a “I’m from this place you’re not” way. I also don’t buy into the “Why didn’t they buy their local flag or a customised one instead” argument. I’d suggest a Union Flag/St George’s Cross is far easier and cheaper to secure than a customised one or one of the specific town they happen to be in.

Its Brentwood.

This vast majority of people must be all idiots. Because you are wrong.

Is Brentwood a hotbed for racism?

Not making an instant judgement on someone isn't showing "naivety on racism". Some of us are capable of nuanced thinking

I don't know why ppl are still arguing about the flag when several posters have said they heard monkey noises and racist comments from the fans. In this context, the flag was almost definitely there to send a message.

Not all flaggy people are racist but racists do seem to love their flags and when they are making derogatory remarks about our players and doing monkey noises... really... It's quite explicit.

And for what it's worth, one of the reasons I've stuck with Dulwich is exactly bc the rabble aren't the type of crowd to rush into a ruck when goaded by knuckle draggers.

Brentwood where police officers tell black people they look like monkeys but not in a racist way, honest.
Surely that's an argument that the police as an institution are inherently racist?

Or are you suggesting police racism is confined to Brentwood ?

There is no argument about whether or not the police are institutionally racist.

Who are you anyway? DonkeyAssessor in disguise? Or are you actually pie and mash squad as your moniker suggests.

Forgive me, but I don't know who/what "DonkeyAssesor" or "Pie & mash squad" are.

I'm sure the forum moderators can confirm I'm a new member and not someone posting under a new username if that is what you're alluding to.

All this talk of flags has made me want to source a Khalistani flag, just to confuse the fuck out of people.

;-)

Oh and Poptyping, the Rabble aren't the sort of people to rush into a ruck when goaded? We're not a single homogeneous entity. :) You might be able to shut out racism, turn the other cheek. Me, not so much.

Having a fight is not always the best way to deal with racism. Its not about turning the other cheek, as it has been reported. Also its not a game of anti racist top trumps because of how you choose to deal with things, im sure a big white man would find it easier to get into a fight about these things than say a small brown women. But doesnt mean they care about racism any less.

I didn't say a small brown woman would care any less did I? I just said I'd handle it differently.

Oh and big white man? You calling me fat?

Then you misread my points entirely.

ok, fair enough, what did you mean then? It did sound quite a lot like you said you care about racism more than poptyping, as they could "shut it out" or "turn the other cheek" and because of the way you chose to handle it.
