Brazil Vs Holland

Fuck me, how did Holland not win this 3 or 4 goals up? Some woeful decision-making up front in the last 20 minutes or so. That said Brazil were poor, at least in the 2nd half.

Because Huntelaar is fucking awful that's why. Nowhere near an international quality striker.

I'd say you should redirect your hate towards something more constructive rather than a nation of lovely people and music and footbal and so on... :p

Mixed in with a bit of hatred of huge corporations;)

I don't know, I'm not judging on that, if I came from a very poor background and had a chance to make lots of money and make my family and community happy I'd take it.

but yes, fuck Nike :mad: and all the bullshit that comes with football/sport in general

I mean the Gillette adverts, wtf?

Brazil looked great for the first minutes, but then disappeared up their own backside. The Netherlands took advantage of some mental instability in the second half, and made it count. Felipe Melo was already being called a grave digger, I guess the nickname will stick to him.

Just one thing: does anyone else thinks there's something wrong with Jesusboy? he looks unsettled, somewhat fat, always arguing with the referee and other players... I had the idea he was a bit cooler under pressure, but he was all over the place.

The way everyone in the media talks total utter wank about Brasil all the fucking time, just stream of consciousness utterly vacuous cliches

And they are (mainly) really boring

Great result for the World Cup, they got totally rumbled 2nd half, well done Holland

BBC comentator said "Its just like watching England" when Brazil went 1-0 up.

I was like er? What?

Then when they lost 2-1 I saw his point :D

I can understand Nike, and as a Man City fan it must be frustrating to see Robinho and Elano doing so well.

But Pele? BBC & ITV?

But Robinho was awful. He's a luxury and look how Holland recognised that and basically played the game down the right as they knew he doesn't track back, let alone tackle. He scored a good goal but in a lot of ways lost them the game.

BBC + ITV always seem to nail their flag to the Brazilian mast when England go out. God forbid if they were to back a European team. No, that would not sit well with the jingoism and nationalism every time England go into a tournament. In other words, Brazil are the English media's second team and it's nice to see pundits and hacks get proved wrong.

I think you're overreacting abit.

We have won five times though, that makes us the best ever :p

ONLY team to EVER do that...

but let us reminisce on 1966, shall we?

I meant about bbc/itv. Its best not to take what the media says personally.

True but I remember watching the Olympics back home in Ireland once and another time in Canada and it was a real eye-opener as to how the media operate over here. You also get to learn a lot more about the teams/athletes instead of constantly hearing people drone on about Rooney or Paula Radclife or whoever the English hero is.

Iemanja I am Welsh I don't give a fuck about 66!

mind you you did beat us in the quarters in 58

And I don't mind people bigging up yr 58, 62 or 70 sides or even romanticising the flawed genius of (say) 82, but these lot? Don't think so. Too pragmatic, cynical and corporate to do justice to the legends.

The Brazilians were brilliant in 66, but robbed by opponents who pretty much kicked Pele out of the games and didn't let the rest of the team play. By 1970 they had a bit more steel about them, and were nigh on unstoppable.

That's why some people rave about Brazil and some don't get it at all. The truly great Brazilian sides were all a good few years ago.

The Brazilians always have a little bit of magic in them!

apart from when we lose

I don't even like the football industry but have this childhood thing about Brazil...

The way they were passing the ball early in the match was something nice. I guess the Brazilian style has been spoilt by too many players going to Europe and learning their ways :( It's all a bit homogeneous now, because of the money.

I made up my mind part way through the game. I just wanted as many suspensions as possible before the semi. A deserved win for Holland, but it was clear from quite early on that it was going to be a win for a team prepared to dive, foul, and hassle the referee over everything. As it turned out the cynical blue team lost their rag and the cynical orange team managed to spend a few minutes actually playing football. Entertaining, but not a great game.

^this - some entertaining moments and a few bits of actual football when the players of both teams weren't trying get their opponents carded. Robben was getting fouled but the exaggerated way he went down sometimes... Seems the default action of any player going down is to hold their head or put their hands over their face, even if their head/face hasn't even been touched!
