can you not hear yourself?

Won't somebody think of the small children! ?
actually yeah, why not? Why not put it in these terms? Vastly overpaid, egotistical cunts who can't even win fairly. Fucking wankers. Who'd want fucking wankers like that as their kids' heroes?

You can take the piss, but I happen to care about sport, and the positive role it can have in children's lives. That's part of the reason the descent of sport into business, and concomitant erosion of any sense of fair play, bothers me.

Do you really feel that fair play is trivial? Do you think a win achieved by cheating has the same value as one achieved without? Do you think players have no responsibility towards themselves and the game to play within the rules? Or should they do everything they can get away with?

firstly, I will take the piss cos you're getting on your high horse.

secondly, you're comparing apples and oranges. you've blithely assumed that just because I think elite football is a circus that reflects how I play the game and how I would expect kids to play it.

if you're expecting high level pros to teach moral lessons then you're already screwed.

thirdly, pro sport was always like this. There was no golden age. it's pure nostalgia to suggest there was.

I'm just expressing an opinion.

I haven't commented on how you play the game, have I?

Kids will copy the pros. I've given up on expecting the pros to conduct themselves decently, but I think the authorities ought to maintain the standards of behaviour. That's all.

I haven't suggested that, have I?

I notice you didn't answer any of my questions.

what else were you trying to say in post 548?

they've never done so in the past, why would you expect them to do so now? just accept that it's a circus.

over and over again. what was the word "descent" supposed to imply in the last post other than the idea that things were better in the past?

I notice you didn't answer any of my questions.

apples and oranges was my answer to that question.

That your experience of football (both playing and watching) is different to mine. Not that you cheat.

It needn't be.

over and over again. what was the word "descent" supposed to imply in the last post other than the idea that things were better in the past?

Certain aspects were better; I believe diving is one such. That's hardly harking back to some bygone utopia.

apples and oranges was my answer to that question.

Except it's not an answer.

Anyway, this is going nowhere, so I'm going to leave it, now.
