Boomtown 2015

Really? I know some have onsite stations but the strip searches are normally reserved for "names and faces"! Jesus...a bit of an imbalance for personal, but it depends on what their targets are. If they are chasing numbers, then they will do what they can to get them up, unless they are drip fed tasks by the security staff. I've worked some clubs where the police have set up dogs and search stations - and used the club staff showers as strip search areas. Trouble with them is that you can't just walk away saying no thanks.

That's extreme and not something that I think has a place on most events. I know that Boomtown do try and give an outward nod to looking like they are doing their best to deal with the drugs issue. I think also we have had multiple deaths and some really serious hospitalisations this year and they are using that to lever their policies. Had updates on some who have had organ failures, shutdowns, damage, brain damage - all sorts, and all from cocktailing their stuff. To be fair, if you invented booze tomorrow you wouldn't get a licence to sell it. I've even picked up heroin on a club door this year - I mean, what the fuck is going on?!
My mate was strip searched at homelands and I got done once at global gathering

To be fair, hearing all this, I think I'm already resigned that I won't be going again...... I hope I'll still enjoy this year though :D
Reading this thread I don't think boom town will ever be done by me. I found the checks coming from glasto camper van field park to site every day fucked me off enough.
Back to my small festivals with stewards on the gate who are attending the festival as well.

To those going to Boom town have a fab one :)
my first time going too Boomtown and I'm already thinking can I be arsed to deal with this

It dose sound really good don't get me wrong but I just loose it about the whole old bill situation, for me festivals and doing bits go hand in hand. How to fuck up
A good festival by Hampshire police. They are a pain at Bestival too
Not sure why everyone is getting uptight about it. It's normally a fantastic festival. In fact, if I could only go to one per year, it would be Boomtown.

The festival itself is amazing..... but the problem is that I don't like being spoken to like a child and treated like cattle..... And it seems that its happening more and more with that festival due to its demographic and growth in popularity...... that said Ill reserver judgement on the whole cattle thing until monday.

Bear it in mind this will be my 6th now..... the novelty has probably started wearing thin for me anyway, despite the production being absolutely amazing.

But the militant searches on the way in, overcrowding at tent entrances, the fact that every year for the last 3 or 4 years at least one person I know has been done by undercover, aggy yoot's etc always give me an air of apprehension before I dive in.

They absolutely tried to destroy glade festival too...... financially at least.

They should move it to northampton, northants police seem to be safe as fuck when it comes to festivals :D

Wow. I am surprised that people are finding it so difficult this year. I know there is a drive to stop the killer-pills coming in though, so it's understandable. I will be talking to mates who are working to see what the inside feels like, but so far they are saying it's coming across as a key event on the calendar - they are looking forward to site going green and punters coming in which is when it comes alive and the town fill up - it's very much driven by the customers here, they make or break it. There are dark areas obviously and some of the more "capable" guys are in there. The only concern I am getting is the young/chavvy/idiot crews again, but they are under instruction to get them locked down and off site as quickly as possible - the tolerance for those sort of groups has reduced every week to the point where they are not welcome, do not add anything to an event and are spotted around the site - slightest chance, get shot.

They'll never get rid of them though, sunday night last year some little prick walked up to me and intentionally knocked my phone out of my hand into ankle deep mud.

Maybe we're all just getting too old for it? :hmm:

Nope. They seem to have bred - or inbred - this year worse than ever. We have no tolerance and will take almost anybody's word over theirs to get them off sited. They have no idea of how to behave. Looking forward to VFest and trashing some weekends for these people - they don't deserve to be at festivals with the rest of us.

There always have, and always will be ratboys- but then they are also at squat parties.

Boomtown is fine once you get in the gate, the stress is just getting in!

Part of the backlash with this is that people don't take their own drugs, from their tried and trusted dealer, instead they buy on site and there lies a whole heap of trouble.

Let's hope they stick to buying acid rather than pills and powders.

...

I'm still waiting for my lift.

chances are you'll have absolutely no hassle at all going in- ive been twice and didn't even get searched.

but, one of my mates almost went to prison, and a couple of others strip searched. chances of getting fucked over in this respect are probably the highest at Boomtown (and Bestival) out of any other :(

shame cos it is probably the best festival out there

They definitely destroyed Glade. still bitter about that.

Northants police do seem to be pretty lax agreed!

You made yourself sound like the nicest security guard, and the worst, within 3 sentences there :p

Yeah, they don't seem to be any hassle at SGP, there its security guards looking for booze, and the eviction from site policy I've taken exception to.

At shambala its great though...... just bowl in and set up shop :D

Considering boomtown is supposed to be a family friendly festival now, it seems Hampshire police never got the memo...... when you're queuing up it feels a bit more like entering bootcamp, than a weekend of music you've paid nearly £200 for..... and thats a reflection of the police requirements, not the organisers.

I am. I believe that festivals are still for the customers, not for the knobheads. They should be somewhere people can enjoy themselves safely without fear of dying or dealing with idiots. I can smell them a mile off. And I will do my level best to get shot of them so that the 2% don't mess it for the 98%.

Its also worth remembering that the knob heads are still customers, and some knob heads actually aren't knob heads...... I know this as I have many a friend who from a distance you'd think "quintessential knobhead" but they're actually some of the most sound people I know. ;)

Im not debating the fact that there are some absolute knob heads though ;)

Nooo

It's going to be great!! It's the worlds craziest town and you need to take me dancing..
:)

I shall queue for aaaaages on Thursday. I may recognise various stewards and GES people. Then I have to locate my tent (which is already on site!) which will mean phone calls and waiting. Then I can set up.

I'm coming straight down off nightshift

Can I come and cry at you on sunday whilst my mum drives across the country to pick me up please wiskey

Any time lovely ... I bet you actually don't have the capacity to cry for that long though without shrivelling up through dehydration.

i'm not sure if I'm making this up, but last year, amongst me mates there seemed to be a particular phone network that had no bother with signal/ reception, anyone any idea which? Need a new normal sized sim for the old skool nokia that's probably still half charged from last year

and swallow the blotters- all that 25x-nbome gear is still doing the rounds on blotter but is inactive orally. if it's true 'cid it'll work just fine swallowed
