Boomtown 2013 8th-11th August

oh dear, nice idea, thought people using it might be ridiculed or there'd be people jumping on and off all the way up

it is a bit steep, and looooong
did me in going up and down 2 or 3 times a day last year

It was a whopping comedy fail :D

Queued (at one of the 3 times I used it) longer than it would have taken to walk up the hill (as they had to regulate the service, though people just walked up to chat with their mates), it went about 1 mile an hour, and as mentioned, you were nowhere near the top of the hill once the ordeal was over!

And after all that, it just felt like you were a conveyor belt of ridicule for everyone walking up the hill that was hurling abuse at us 'posho's' who thought supposedly thought we were better than everyone else! I disagred with the sentiment but was embarrassed enough not to counter it! :D

From about 2/3 of the way up.

Well what a great weekend that was, I cant remember a festival apart from glasto where there has been so much entertainment laid on, so many different venues and stages. I saw a lot of good stuff and everything seemed well picked for the good time party vibe. As others have said the effort put into the creation of the different town districts was a sight to behold.

We arrived around midday on Friday which actually worked very well although we had quite a long walk to the gate there were no queues and the security checks were friendly and laid back. There was plenty of camping space available and it seems we had missed the worst of the tent thefts the previous night. It was however a bit strange to turn up at a festival to see signs around warning about bad batches of k and the death of a woman, then our new neighbours warned us about the thefts. Fortunately we didn't have any problems and had a great weekend.

Only a couple of gripes and that was a few more toilets are required and more and better signed water points should be available and marked on the maps. Biggest gripe for me was the booze situation; I can understand the reasoning behind limiting the amount of booze you are allowed to bring but the trade off has to be loads of well stacked and reasonably priced bars. In fact what we had for the bars was too few, often with long lines, a very poor range and really quite expensive. If you are limiting people in how many cans they bring in selling 4% Tuborg as the only lager at £4 a can is not on at all, Beatherder were doing 2 for £5 and it was much better beer. Personally we all flouted the booze rule and I'm very glad I did. The only exception was the cider bar in the main town square which did have some decent things on even if it was a bit chaotic.

All in all though a great festival with great music, generally a great vibe and fantastic weather.

The toilets and water were a disgrace (again) ... this is where the nearest ones to our tent were!

They were battling to keep people from using the woods behind our tent but frankly I didn't blame them.

At the bottom of the hill there were 'zoo loos' posh toilets and being quite pregnant I thought I'd investigate that ... £12.50 a DAY! or £30 for the w/e

On the plus side all the loo's I did use were serviceable and clean but tbh if you only have 6 it's not hard to keep them clean is it.

Maybe I've been spoilt by recent festivals but its the first time for a while I've seen portaloos which were not flushing ones, most festivals manage that now surely?

Did you genuinely find my post that funny you laughed, or is that one of your special passive aggressive laughing emoticons?

When you pulled the lever on some loos a horrible brown-coloured liquid came down.

Yeah, that happens when they get overfull - it starts out blue, turns brown when the water starts being recycled that's full of, erm, 'waste'
I thought it was that. I hoped it wasn't, but my nose and eyes were saying otherwise.

Yeah, barely saw it blue all weekend. Wondered whether they were even putting the detergent in in the first place

recycled poo wee :hmm: are you really *that* bothered what colour the liquid is that moves your business down into a vat of waste? :D

I think they made some improvements toilet wise - mainly that everything was cleared on Sunday evening/Monday. Last year that didnt happen and toilet needs when theyre piled high with mess is NOT good before your journey home.

The toilets could have been in greater numbers though imo

Water was again a bit of an issue - as others have said it wasnt well indicated where the water points are and there didnt appear to be enough functioning ones.

Still enjoyed myself greatly though
