Boomtown 2013 8th-11th August

What does it say? The lass who sadly died was best friends - and with - a poster on squatjuices sister. He said it was anaphylaxis shock after taking a pill she bought. She sadly died before they could get paramedics to open up her airwaves

ETA removed bit about epipen has doubled checked and not known

Given the amount of drugs around, loads of tent thieving and a dead girl, I thought the police and security were restrained if anything.

Also one of the problems with SR being so well known is that every 18 year old can sell stuff they know fuck all about.

The music was really good. Psy trance became my dirty secret.

And I have to add that the love, care and attention that had gone into building the 'town' was nothing short of inspirational.

I wasn't sure about splitting the town into uptown and downtown but it did ensure that compared to places like Glastonbury, there was always lots of space.

Yup...So many things to compliment it on (that will get lost through the numerous complaints), though one would be the space. Never felt crampt nor empty. No shitty little must-see stages that needed queuing.

I had an amazing time, liked the new spread out town, my only real gripe was the distance to the camper field.

Sad news about the poor girl, but it has to be remember you're buying unregulated substances and with that comes a risk, I don't think it will cause too many problems for the license next year, but we'll see. Obviously thoughts first and foremost must go to the friends and family of the girl before getting into a long winded debate of its affect of future festivals. I've been at at least five or six festivals with deaths now, sometimes they seem to be drug related, sometimes not, but a small town getting on it with limited medical facilities there'll always be problems.

Good to meet some more urbs too, sorry I was a bit quiet, chemical breakfast innit.

Home. Grubby. Achy (why did they make all the hills go up?!). Tired.

Took two bloody hours to get out of the car park which nearly led to a sense of humour failure.

I have some gripes and some positives I'll post up later but overall a good time was had by all.

I think there might be a campaign starting to get the Wurzels on Arcadia :D :D

had a great time, glad the meet did happen even though the site was different from last year, was good to meet you tbtommyb

So, turns out that people got their drugs in almost as well as they did in some tiny events up north.

Bloody marvelous time. Didn't see any tithead security really (I've worked alongside GES all summer and they're OK for a security mob really) and they responded well when me and a friend rescued some bolloxed girl from a wanker at Arcadia on Friday night during Punk Floyd. Plod seemed highly visible but got the balance right generally.

Not enough water, not enough toilets. Get it right ffs

Desperately needing some r&r at Beautiful Days from Wednesday onwards :D

I've pointed out that that site has been thieve central for ages, not specific to any festival. Generally thurs/fri they go on a mission, seem to do very well and party on the proceeds from then on.

Great festival, don't like the split though, just move all the tents up there and the festival down there.

Then there was Arcadia, who owned the place, when they started to when they finished.

Oh and that spinny ride was fucking insane.

8pm Saturday at the Bandstand if you're not working. I'll sing a song a for you :D

We've just had our last rehearsal for our gig at Beautiful Days and I think it would be fair to say that editor is a broken man :D

If they can have a crowd practically biting their arm off for something to dance to like they did last night and they respond with the Michael bloody Jackson anything is possible.

That almost ruined my weekend! Never again should such an amazing rig be abused like that, I had 5 minutes of thinking I was in a school disco.

I was prepared for a bit of zinc cheese but the first half of his set even tipped me over. Nowt wrong with MJ though.

Ive just said elsewhere: "Tonight I will sleep in a properly horizontal bed to the sound of silence not 100s of rave starved nutters banging bins with sticks in the woods nutters"

Everything shut down at 12 on Sunday and the Boomtown residents being who they are werent happy to settle at that so after circling around downtown for a while they decided to make their own entertainment. This consisted of mini mobile raves with people playing music on their phones through tinny speakers with a crowd whirling around it trying to get close enough to hear the music :D

THEN they started nicking the metal bins and having impromptu samba style banging sessions, one downtown by some of the food stalls still open and one group went off into the hidden woods and stayed there until around 6 in the morning :D 5 hours of raving nutters making not entirely rhythmic noises while others try to sleep ready to face Monday. It was a bit inconsiderate but it actually makes me laugh everytime I think about it :D

Various memories:

Demented Are Go at the Devil Kicks. Preceded by some excellent rockabilly band (name anyone?). Then we went to Arcadia for Punk Floyd, which was fantastic
The Lion's Den. Oh my days. WHAT an epic looking stage! Stage design and setting of the summer and some fantastic acts on there as well. Especially enjoyed the Iration Steppas kicking things off on Friday morning
Jungle Saturday. Well it seemed like there was jungle everywhere anyway :D Jacky Murda at the Chopsticks dubplate thing at the Lion's Den, Asbo Disco's jungle special at the Spaceport, back to the Lion's Den for Serial Killaz
The Wurzels, godfathers of Scrumpy & Western, going down a storm in the Town Centre. Young pretenders the Skimmity Hitchers taking the Bandstand on Sunday afternoon. 'My Willy's Getting Hard' has never sounded so good and 'Badgerman' is a modern classic.
The psytrance was sensibly hidden away in an area where nobody could find it
Sicknote at Devil Kicks on Saturday night. Just a bit 'wtf' really
The eco-bond is GENIUS. Get your tenner back for picking up a bag of litter is the way forward. Huge queues and relative tidyness proved the scheme's worth.
Arcadia. Sometimes I feel they're running out of ideas. Then I realise that the ideas they have already have a very long way to run so no need to worry. Extraordinary show people and given the setting they had been robbed of at Glastonbury.
Seeing all the punks and psychobillies hanging around the Devil Kicks. I like the fact that Boomtown isn't just about the dance subcultures.
Meeting loads of you as well as loads of other people I love dearly. Sorry I couldn't spend more time with you lot but when you're somewhere where you know so many people, it's kind of hard to give you all the attention you deserve :)
Yes, I'll be back next year.

Absolute tragedy about that poor lass :(

I was prepared for a bit of zinc cheese but the first half of his set even tipped me over.
I thought he was doing OK with some proper bouncy breaks but then he went a bit shit didn't he :D Convinced me that I wanted to go to bed and even the start of Calyx and Teebee couldn't wake me up for a final stomp.

Prawnucopia at Boomtown. WTF doesn't cover it.

ace :D look forward to more photos!

anyone use the magic carpet? did it break?
anyone see deadsilence?

magic carpet did break and was hella slow :D people walking up the hill adjacent shouted playful abuse at its users :D walk you lazy git etc :D it was OK if you had any difficulty I guess but if you were half way able bodied it was probably easier to just walk up that bit of hill and rest for a bit. You still had to walk further up the hill anyway to get to the uptown bit

Being smashed on drugs and booze made climbing that hill pretty difficult :D

Yes & yes (not as a result of me using it!!)

Sunray kindly gave me a wristband so I used it a few times, it appeared to have varying speeds - and apparently the 'slightly faster than walking speed' wasn't allowed to be used so actually it was often quicker to walk up the hill ... and you got spared the abuse from those not on the carpet! It was also really hard to stand up on :hmm:

ETA: a LOT of people had wristbands so I guess they made their money out of it - and there were hardly any queues. In fact the only time there was a queue I walked up.
