'Bleeding' vegan burger is an 'existential threat' to beef' whines NZ MP

Can anyone muster any fucks?

A vegan burger that "bleeds" has been labelled an "existential threat" to New Zealand's beef industry by politicians.

Air New Zealand is serving the Impossible Burger, which is made from synthetic meat using wheat, coconut oil, potatoes and "magic ingredient" heme.

Compared to cows, the vegan product uses 95% less land, less water and creates 87% less greenhouse gas emissions, according to the company's website.

But MP Mark Patterson, of the ruling New Zealand First Party, said the national carrier's decision to serve the vegan burger was a "slap in the face" to the country's $6bn red meat sector.

The burger could pose "an existential threat to New Zealand's second biggest export earner", he warned in a statement.

Acting PM Winston Peters added that he was "utterly opposed to fake beef".
How can you be 'opposed' to a fucking food that is infinitely better for the planet? Stupid cunt.

Nope. Although I will say that I can't see the need for a "burger that bleeds." Some of these burgers are over priced and seriously over packaged as well.
Perhaps meat eaters transitioning to a vegan diet will find the faux meat dribble helps them adjust, os maybe it'll just make it more tempting to a carnivore. Either way, the fewer people eating meat, the better so I'm all for it.

Heme will give the taste of meat protein. I don't get that.
If you're eating a vegan burger why would you want it to taste like meat?
answered above
for people transitioning to being vegan
for people who were once meat eaters who miss that aspect and can now have it without the cruelty

Yes. I did read that. It just still leaves me perplexed.
If you want to become vegan than you are not going to want to be reminded of how nice a meaty beef burger tastes.

Going vegan is not made easier by reminding you of the taste of meat.surely?
That's my one and tuppence
We shall see how well the burger goes down though

if you can get a similar taste without having to cook decaying flesh why wouldn't you?
for some people it will make it easier

All the taste of beer but no alcohol. Not every one can have alcohol.
Vegan burger..all the taste of meat but no meat.
Is it still a pointless comparison because it has all the taste and all the goodness. Whereas alcohol free beer misses out one major ingredient that has a huge impact on the enjoyment of the product. Alcohol.

Well, the nutritional profile will be quite different in several ways (in terms of both healthy and unhealthy stuff), but I don’t think people go for burgers for the nutrition in any case.

But I can’t make much sense of the alcohol analogy either.

This is the bit that should matter: the vegan product uses 95% less land, less water and creates 87% less greenhouse gas emissions...
But I can’t make much sense of the alcohol analogy either.
It is meaningless.

I'd be delighted to eat a non-meat burger that tasted as good as a beef burger. I'm just interested in food and like to eat meat free meals. I do eat non-meat bugers but they are never as good as beef ones and I'm fully aware thay we all should be eating less meat. If there was a good alternative, I'd be all for it!
