Best riff ever

posting this version as i was jumping around near the front

much as I love that song, its jangly chord sequence is pretty much the polar opposite of "riff" imo.... it is great rhythm/lead combination playing but it is more in the jazz improv style of Hendrix where it is very loose and nothing gets played exactly the same twice, rather than the tight repetition of a riff.

I'm going to make a case.

It's instantly recognisable, has a nice little chromatic descent and anybody could pick it up and run with it or do something else with it.

eg.

Still one of the best selling albums ever this, 30 million copies - reckon they're the most obscure band on the list.

Had an inkling that they were big in their time but not that big! I once had a copy and then sold it, it's not a great listen (IMO).

They were not just huge in the USA, for some reason that record was a smash hit across latin america too, which I think is why the sales are suprisingly huge.

Also, this.

I went to a pretty shit festival in 2016 called Standon Calling. About midnight on Saturday, I was mashed and looking for something to dance to and avoid all the pissed up ruggerbuggers. I stumbled into a sort of walled off part of a field just in time to hear the opening riff of Submission. Looking closer and trying to focus, I said to Mrs FA; "That bloke on drums really looks like Paul Cook and that guitarist is a dead ringer for Glen Matlock. Also that really old bloke looks like Mick Jones." For the next hour, me Mrs FA and a crowd of about 40 people jumped about while The Rotten Hill Gang feat. Matlock, Cook & Jones + about 6 others ploughed through some proper bouncy punk/hip hop/techno bizarreness. A brilliant festival moment at an otherwise crap affair.
