best melon

I noticed there wasn't a best melon poll so I had to do one.

What's the best melon? If your favourite melon isn't in the poll please don't complain about it.

Why do you like this melon or those melons in particular?

I like galia melons because they taste nice and are interesting to look at.

I like the idea of watermelons, but I don't really like the taste of them.

Watermelon - because it is big and red and juicy, and has a good texture. I am less keen on melons with a denser flesh - although I will eat them.

I've also voted for two I've never heard of.

Watermelon for me too, very refreshing. It's very different from other melons

I'm not so keen on denser flesh ones either, with the exception of yellow honeydew. I much prefer this to cantaloupes etc. Not quite sure why, could be memories of eating it on holiday when I was a kid (too expensive/exotic to have at home apparently) or maybe it is just sweeter or more flavoursome

I love the other melons that I've tried too. As with most fruit when they are properly ripe and sweet they are glorious. It's just they are not always as ripe and sweet as they could be.

That's a good point - some other types of melon can be pretty tasteless, and while nice and refreshing enough fridge-cold don't really have a point.

Watermelons are prettiest when sliced. I do like watermelon but won't eat it due to the unpredictable pips.

Watermelons are also packed with lycopene and so help prevent lung cancer amongst other things.

I can easily eat half a big one in one sitting.

dunno but they are pretty distinct looking. stripy green outside bright red with black seeds inside. I've never had one that was nearly but not quite the same. Other melons are more similar to each other.

I could gorge myself on any type of melon, I actually love the things unreservedly.
It's really difficult to pick a favourite tbh, I like galia, canteloupe, and honeydew most (I am salivating just at the thought, I must go out and buy melons tomorrow!)
I think watermelon is my least favourite, simply because I am not so in love with the slightly grainier texture of the flesh - I wouldn't turn one down though, even my least favourite melon is still one of the best things in the world
