Ashley Cole: I Hate England

Slower than JT??

:eek::eek:

Really. A few seasons before Botham played for us club legend Angus Davidson retired. Angus was the slowest winger in history. Compared to him John Terry looks like an Olympic sprinter. Largely because Davidson's usual pre match preparation was four or five pints of ale and a couple of whiskeys.

He was loads quicker than Botham.

we used to affectionately sing "slow winger" at Darren Currie when he played for us, on grounds of his truly awesome level of slowness (affectionately on account of lower-league David Beckham capacity to find space to ping in a great cross)

How ironic, as he did state in his biography that one of the reasons that he left Arsenal was that he felt isolated as one of the few English born players there.

He never was the brightest footballer.

I remember Darren Currie. Not a natural athlete. But a rather useful footballer despite that.

Mrs Gerrard doesn't have a sister.

Just, y'know, for the record, m'lud.

Why would that matter to the tabloids?

Some years ago there was a rumour that Sven Goran Eriksson was going to be poached from the England job to become manager of Chelsea. At a press conference he was asked several times about it and denied it each time. On BBC News24 when they did a segment on it, the presenter asked the sports correspondent (Chris Hollins) about it. "It's almost certainly not true" he said, "but if it was true it would be a great story, so we'll keep asking about it."

That's the state of football journalism. Make up a fantasy. Then keep asking questions about it until somebody makes up a more interesting story.

Sadly political journalism is worse.

Works for transfer rumours:

Hat A - name of top player
Hat B - name of club (not his own obv.)

Take one from each, make up a 'source' and there's your word quota for the day. Sadly it's a by product of the window system that they just make up any old shit without even thinking.

My favourite was Chelsea buying Yaya Toure from us over the winter as cover for Essien who was off to the African Cup of Nations...not the brightest sparks.

I'd tell it straight to JT .. 'You're a big man but you're out of shape and out of my international team'
