England Redux

Carrick? God no. Couple of decent games a season and that's it. The definition of average.
Hargreaves....yeah using injured players has worked out well for England.

England need to start all over again...and that means Rodwell or someone similar.

Fuck it. Could be basically anyone with a sense of positional discipline, who can do the job.

Someone with a bit of fire in the belly.

Parker would have failed too - because of the inflexibility of those around him - Lampard and Gerrard think they can do their own thing and fuck the consequences. Until they go England can't move forward.

Barry is fine as a holding midfield player but he was forced to go looking for the ball at times and that merely played into Ozil's hands even more.

Parker's mobile and covers huge amongst of ground. Barry's a very tidy player but gets done for pace.

Parker's had to bail out West Ham's defence on so many occasions it's not even funny. I don't think he's as skilful as Barry but his dynamism would have been very handy on Sunday.

Yup. There's a limit to the number of undisciplined midfielders you can carry. Obviously Lampard or Gerrard have proved they're unsuited temprement wise to doing that.

If he's over his tendinitis and playing well, obviously. He was our best player at the 2006 world cup and England have missed him a lot. At 29 he could easily play in the next 2 tournaments. I'm not saying he'd turn us into world beaters but we have nobody else as good as him in his position. But the big question is whether his injury and time out the game will have depleted his performance level.

Scott Parker?
Too old.

IMO we need to build a team that although maybe not much cop now, will develop together so that we've got a well functioning unit for Brazil 2014.

None of the players in my OP line-up are older than 26, with the exception of Ashley Cole. Twat though Cole is, he was probably the least embarrassing player in SA, and I can't think of any other options at LB.

Hopefully Owen Hargreaves will be back soon.

Same applies. He'll be 33 when the next WC comes around.

Phycho for England!

Come on, he would be the saviour of English football - all that pride, passion, belief. Under Mr Pearce no tactics or ability would be needed, England would just want it more.

He would be bound to succeed, after all he is English!

I'm going to start a Facebook group. I urge you all to join the campaign.

:D Quite good actually. England fans do seem to have this idea that 'belief' is all that's needed. As if a shared fantasy is real until someone says otherwise. It's reminiscent of the Great Leap Forward in China.

Well it's not like teams that rely on technique and intelligence ever get very far. You know, teams like Brazil, Argentina and Spain.

:D

I'd love to see that.

It's only a broken leg you snivelling pansy! Get the fuck up! I played 70 minutes even though I'd been decapitated once you pathetic little shit!

And with the cry of 'Remember Terry Butcher' he did lead them into battle...

Two words: Michael Owen

stick a fork in Hargreaves he's done

quite. Pick whoever in the current line-up you think might be still worth a shout in 2014, the rest of the team should be 25 or below.
