Are you looking forward to the World Cup?

There are scant few 'classic' matches in the group stages. Spain vs Portugal tomorrow is one, and if things go as expected, England vs Belgium will meet in their last group game to decide top spot.

Other than that...

There will almost certainly (hopefully!) be other good matches, but they're not easily predictable for a relatively casual fan like me.
Maybe not classics but there are some corkers in there. I'm really looking forward to:
Germany vs Mexico
France vs Denmark
Portugal vs Morocco (potential upset on the way there)
Brazil vs Switzerland
Serbia vs Brazil
All the games in Group D - Argentina vs Nigeria vs Iceland vs Croatia - My favorite group by far. Great mix of teams - what's not to love about all those games.
England vs Belgium
Group H another blinder: Poland vs Colombia - Poland vs Senegal - Senegal vs Colombia

Love it!

Opening game is always the host nation.

Not always. On many occasions before 2006 the opening game would involve the World Cup winners. And it resulted in some big shocks. Think Cameroon beating Argentina in 1990. Senegal beating France in 2002.

After being less excited than usual, this has turned into one of the best World Cups ever. Sometimes it's good to have low expectations.
