Are you looking forward to the World Cup?

Whilst I am looking forward to it, it feels very different this year, with none of the usual hype about England's chances. Whilst I am looking forward to the football and some good games, I don't feel as excited as usual.

This is probably partially because I went to Brazil 4 years ago, so I was incredibly excited then, whereas I wouldn't go to support England in Russia if you paid me.

Are you excited? Or does it all feel a bit underwhelming?

I think less people watching normal telly these days :hmm: Also football is a global sport so players like Pele or Roger Muller are everyday rather than a rare glimpse these days. We can almost 100% predict England just progressing from the group stages on goal difference, then being knocked straight out.

Would rather watch Man City vs Liverpool or Real vs Barca these days :(

Looking forward to it but going to pick my games, Portugal v Spain will hopefully be a corker, but don't see why anyone would want to watch Russia v Saudi Arabia.

All going to be a bit pointless anyway without Wales in it!

Can't say I'm massively excited but I'll probably get into it once it's on. I don't watch much televised football at all these days - I realised when not bothering to watch the Champions League final I didn't watch any of this season's competition - but I'm sure I'll see some of it. I'll watch England even though I expect it to be shit, and it's always fun to go to a few bars where people from a particular country gather to watch their games.

I agree Badgers, you can watch the best players in the world anytime. The time when the World Cup gave us the only chance to see outstanding players as long gone. I will be watching because from next Monday I will be off work for three months following an operation so football and the Tour will see me stuck in front of the box. Hoping for some good matches. Not real football like the Championship.:D

Never felt less excited for this, my tenth World Cup, though I AM looking forward to it. Every tournament manages to provide excitement and drama at some point, and this one will too. I'm one of those people who has measured his life in World Cups as much as anything else - I associate them with lots of other things from that time - so I will be tuning in for as much of it as possible.

Kind of the opposite for me tbh - I've never felt more disconnected from top level club football than I have over the last few years. More money, less exposure on normal telly, more hype, less enjoyment for the casual fan.

While I've always been a club man over country (Bristol Rovers for me), and I'm just as passionate about Rovers as I've always been, the World Cup provides a welcome distraction from the utter nonsense of top level football across Europe.

Definitely giving less of a shit about this one. My overall enthusiasm peaked at Italia 90 and has been declining ever since.

Nevertheless will watch the England and Brazil games and probably some of the others.

Certainly its a bit muted in the UK at the moment, low expectations for England combined with no other home nation or Ireland being there. I don't mind that though, maybe just be able to watch the football without all the hype and over the top crap.

And the date format should be yyyy-mm-dd. I'd suggest dispensing with the year as it is superfluous, but then any passing strangers might mistake us for Americans.
Only for file management, surely? For promotion it's better to have it in the recognisable dd-mm-yyyy*?

*or yy, if you find the 20 superfluous. In this context I probably would, but wouldn't make a fuss because, I mean, goodness, I'm not fussy about these things.

There's a world cup on? I stopped watching footie after the Wal v Por semi at the Euros. It'll never get any better than that tourney for my boys.

I tell you what though, the world cup is destroying the weekly kickabouts I partake of. Utter devastation. Ruined my life frankly.

No I fucking well am not. Bad enough having to suffer moronic commentary from the sofa, but the idiot sweetheart has broken his fucking wrist which means he gets to sit in idle comfort, with macho cast examining and injury boasting and all that shit, while I am run ragged doing everything else...such as having to button his fucking flies and tie his twatting shoelaces...the clumsy cunt (and naturally, it was his own fault (fell off a log!)
