Another spoiled little man goes a US gun rampage (six people murdered in Santa Barbara)

It really annoys me when the serial killer label is leapt upon.

He's not a serial killer as Yuwipi Woman has said - he's a spree killer. Not that it brings anybody back.

True. Though "Spree killer" probably doesn't sound menacing enough for the Mirror. "Spree killer" sounds like something you'd do on a whimsical afternoon, like a shopping spree... "ey up love I'm just off out for a bit of spree killing..taraa"

British Serial Killer = newspaper sales.

If he was normal he'd have been accepted by his peers and fitted in and had girlfriends

My best friend of 40 years has Asperger's Syndrome. He's always been accepted by his peers, fitted in, and had girlfriends, even marrying and fathering 6 children.
Neurotypicality is no marker for or predictor of social success, just as Asperger's Syndrome is no predictor of social failure.

I find it shocking how even when the evidence is laid out people don't want to accept it - this is why these things happen - because people are always in denial as regards the facts of the matter and no one cares

People just project their own psychology and experience onto him. "If he had access to friends then he chose not to bond with friends because..."

Blah blah bullshit. Nobody knows what went on in his head.

He didnt just want a sex toy he wanted a smoking hot model sex toy.
The would validate his alpha maleness:facepalm:

Though idealy he'd have a harem because he was so much better than the likes of us.
Que tasteless joke about bmw drivers wanting to kill non bmw driver except its probably true :(

I dunno, don't want to call anyone out but I can think of a few names, especially some people in a certain part of London
sure, there's a load of wet liberals and a few masochist right wingers here, but the pull is substantially to the left of the general population across all the forums. How anyone could think any differently is a bit baffling tbh.

So he's been lucky then

many people with Aspergers do not get this level of social acceptance so he is no benchmark

you are effectively saying there's no point even having a diagnosis

I think a lot depends on how many traits of aspergers or autism someone has. I know some kids with aspergers (verging towards autism) and they do appear different to their colleagues and have trouble socialising. Plus at those sorts of ages there is also teenage shyness and angst to consider which confuses things somewhat.

I am prepared to believe this guy had aspergers and that it contributed significantly to his being bullied and his sense of isolation.

Incidentally SpineyNorman did you see the research regarding sexism on a yougov poll the other day? It was very interesting regarding what voters of the various parties regarded as sexism, their experiences of sexism and the results regarding UKIP supporters weren't at all what most of the liberal commentariat would have expected - on some issues they were less sexist than the general population!

TBF, it'd be wrong to ban Mikey for saying he'd had his dick sucked by a feminist, as we shouldn't punish people for fantasising.
Let's be blunt - the only time his dick has been sucked is when he's had one of those embarrassing vacuum cleaner "accidents". ;)

And when his mum left him at home alone with the dog.

So you don't want them to be able to prevent future terrorist attacks?

that's logical...
No. I don't believe that stuff is really just about combating 'terrorism'. And if you do you're an utter fucking mug.

Have you worked out whether you understood elliot rodger yet by the way?

Nope, he's been his own unique self. Luck has fuck-all to do with it.

"Many" people with Asperger's Syndrome do achieve that level of social acceptance. I can think of many on here alone.

No I'm not, I'm saying that a diagnosis (or having a condition, even without diagnosis) isn't a predictor of the degree of social success or failure you're likely to achieve in any meaningful way. At best, perceived predictability may mark a trend, but even that is arguable. Just because half a dozen (or a dozen, or a thousand) Aspies get together on a web forum and agree that they're all going to be social failures, doesn't make it so, it merely marks a predeliction for herd pessimism.

He had a social communication disorder...neurological wires were crossed that couldn't be rewired. He viewed every social interaction differently to the way others might.
He lived in a priveleged society but didn't understand any of the relationships around him. He grew up in a culture where perfection is pushed at every turn. He was fed a load of tripe online by men who had chips on their shoulders and blamed women for the world's ills.
The medical system did probably as much as he would allow them to do. He refused to take anti psychotic meds. He was a sad individual who grew up in a fog of confusion about how to communicate appropriately with others and led to stunted growth in his social and emotional development.
He was 22 chronologically but really I suspect from his wrotings and videos that he was closer to 14 on the emotional age scale.

It's just very very sad for everyone concerned.

What do you think Aspergers is?? it's a cognitive deficit.

You missed the word "pathological". Nice bit of selective comprehension.

A lot of people with Aspergers kill themselves - hardly functional social skills!

A majority of persons "with Aspergers" don't kill themselves, so "a lot" is hyperbolic.

you are not talking from a position of authority on this matter imo.
What you mean (but are too wise to state openly) is that I don't have Asperger's Syndrome, and am therefore not "qualified" to say anything.
You're right - I don't have Asperger's Syndrome. My neurological problems are entirely different.
What I do have is a good working knowledge of forensic psychology, and how different forms of disorder exert effects.

Well said

I doubt many would deny his aspergers played some kind of role. The problem is you're trying to make it the determining factor when it clearly wasn't since the proportion of people with aspergers who do this kind of thing is so small as to be negligible.
