Americans: why don't you use kettles?

I went to a Williams-Sonoma when I was in America. They had lots of interesting and expensive things. What I was impressed with was their range of 'water heater' gadgets. They were basically kettles but a lot fancier. They had thermostats and timers and settings and all sorts of things. So you could heat your water to exactly the right temperature for your perfect cup of aeropress coffee, or not-quite-boiling for a nice fruit tea, etc. I really quite wanted one.

It's in bloody Fahrenheit though :facepalm:

Do Americans put milk in their coffee? I think a lot of British people think instant coffee is acceptable because they spoil it with milk anyway. I've never met a black coffee drinker who thought instant was better. Drip coffee's shit but at least it's coffee.

They put cream in their coffee.

You can set coffee makers to make different amounts, like one or two cups, or you can get a two cup coffee maker, or as yuwipi mentioned the notorious Keurig :eek:

Do they only make coffee? They don't boil water for other purposes?

How do you take care of your other boiling water needs?

Or Creamer.

Which can be non-dairy, and comes in a range of flavours, and is actually really quite nice. But can be absolutely terrible for you. It often comes sweetened, so no need for sugar, but there are non-sweetened versions.

Many often come laden with the obligatory gallon of HFCS.

Closest we get is the powdered version of Coffee-Mate. You can get flavoured versions of the powdered stuff through American import companies, but it's expensive, and they don't have the range that you can get in the US. And the liquid version is superior.

I would be a dedicated coffee creamer user if they introduced it over here.

Yick! Get it away!

2p = 4 gobstoppers

Made perfect sense to me. :cool:
I used to collect bottles I found in the street too - a useful pocket money top up.

The last time I remember taking empties back for the deposit was around 1990 when you could take Newcastle Brown Ale bottles back for ten pence each I think.
