Americans: why don't you use kettles?

I doubt anyone still uses AstroTurf(tm). Canadian winter being what it is, yes most of them are artificial. I believe Toronto's stadium is natural grass (they get the attendance figures to pay for it), but anywhere else it's too costly.

Edit: I just looked, and of course they're not actually using TFC's stadium for the World Cup. Presumably because.... I dunno, you've got me.
Women need smaller pitches and goals etc. They're expecting to work out, after this cup, if the ball needs to be lighter or heavier...

North Americans don't believe in wasting electricity.
We used to waste a lot of electricity. In the seventies, we were encouraged by the state run electricity provider (Hydro Quebec) to convert from oil and gas heating to electric, when it was a much cheaper option. Everyone overheated their houses 21,22, 23C. Not so cheap now and quite expensive this past winter when it was -25C from January to March, pretty much continuously. We have been told that our natural resources, forests, fresh water, etc are limitless, and we are finally waking to the reality of our industrial history (not to mention the dreadful oil sands projects, which are slowly going out of business, from the sounds of it). And thank you 8den, I love chocolate hobnobs when I can find them...beans, cheese or no cheese, a reference I don't understand, not so much. I am not firky, at least not the last time I looked. :)

I am looking into replacing my gas cooker with an induction hob electric cooker.

If I do, I will be throwing my electric kettle away and buying a stove top kettle because apparently induction boils water quicker than an electric kettle.

We shall never speak of this again
My folks had an induction hob in their old place. It boiled water frighteningly quickly. You'll wonder why you used to sacrifice the worktop space.

Oh that's easy. Because 2600W kettles are £20 and induction hobs are not. And the time difference between the two is essentially noise. That being said, I've got my eye on one that comes with a couple of gas burners as well. Definitely the way of the future.

-25C is nature's way of saying you're not supposed to live here.
