Alternative Euro 2004: U75 Team Needed

At the last Offline, Intostella asked me, in an accusatory manner, why I wasn't involved with this.

I'm still not sure why she asked me

We'd appreciate support on the day I'm sure, it's the same day as the Eng v France game, as mentioned, so it'd be great for Urban to participate in a mini euro2004 followed by, or including (players included) a nice session in the sun, followed by England's opener, incl. picnic - excellent stuff.

tsk, sore foot, london walks... you'll forget to turn up to drug testing next.

don't forget we're all playing for our places!

Well, I'm expecting my foot to be alright come Saturday or it's off to the doctor to see if I've aggrevated an old foot injury...

Like Sven, the gaffer may not name you in the squad if you're injured, she may not take the risk.

I'm gonna buy me a rubber willy and fill it with me nephews wee, then if the inspectors ask for a sample I'll use the rubber willy with the wee of an angel, a la Diego Armando Maradona, of course I'll be full of coke, fat and boozed up, will have had no sleep and will be eating sandwiches and smoking fags at half time.

the life of a footballer eh

I thought I'd better report that in running for the bus this morning (not cycling because going straight to Regents Park) it became apparent that the bruising on top of my toes causes agony.

I didn't do anything to it. Just noticed pain after a few beers on Friday night

Anyway, I'm still coming, but I may not last very long.

In addition, does anyone know of any pubs near Regents Park likely to be showing Sky Sports 1 tomorrow evening. I think I know of one down Tottenham Court Road if push comes to shove.

(Not that Rollem cares about Div 2 any more :( )

With regards to a practice on Saturday, there's a London walk - but also the FA cup final later on in the day...
london walk, its up to you, but i am sure you can miss one of the things for the name of the team....and did you really think we wouldn't know there was the FA cup final on saturday?! training will be early innit, simple

am busy like a stupid busy thing at work today, but am hoping to send out some tactics via pm that i think we should follow...if you dont get them though, dont worry, can discuss in the park later

and flimsier, there is a pub down the road form the park that should be showing the game if you wanna watch the shitty get shat on :D ;) i wont be bothering though, coz like you say, i dont care about div 2 anymore....

I'm well up for this too. Put in a pretty decent performance on Monday - ran around a fair bit - scored a fair few - fitness is getting better - but then went straight to the pub for around 4 hours straight after.

Looking forward to tonight - hopefully we'll find a spot where the pitch is pretty even - still have graze on my back from last Saturday.

My bloody knee was cut to bits last week, I was playing last night and the slightest knock when I fell had blood pouring from it, well, trickling,

I know the gaffer and ChrisF were saying it's just a laugh, that it is but if we can get our act together, which i think we will, we have a good chance of getting at least a cpl of wins under our belt, which would be feckin great.

trust me tony, i dont wanna lose any games either !

fun yes, losers no!!

my legs look like nik naks or monster munch or something.. get done over by bed bugs on saturday night, and trust me, it's not pretty.. might at least put the opposition off.

might go for a jog before the match, cos i didn't warm up properly on moinday, and it fucked me.

I think so too. I'm well up for this - I'm competitive and hate losing - but I guess Chris F and Rollem are right - it's fun and it's gonna be a fun day.

But it would be more fun if we did well. Come on the Urban lads! :)

hey, don't get me wrong, I'll be grumpy as hell if we flop.. even with all the kiddies around I'll probably scream expletives when I fuck up.. I just meant we should keep it light hearted amongst ourselves..

I was training y/day with my work team and the warm up we had was a great fitness tester, I was more fucked from that than the game we played. maybe this evening we can have a proper warm up. 15 mins or so,

we played a wicked training game last night, we used a qtr of the pitch and had a single bag as each goal, the object, although to score was to keep possession in a crowded confined space, 2 touch football, very hard but a shape does form and movement comes too, great for fitness too cos you're always moving, looking for space, it kinda leads to 'total' football where you can master the ball in any position, and that's the key with 5/6/7-a-side football. it's very hard to stay in position so fitness and being comfortable on the ball are key.

As we all know, with our gaffers dirrection and a little dedication, which we are showing already, we'll be ready.

fun me arse, I get very competitive with these kind of things

Of course it's light hearted, typing is one thing... running around is another. I guess I'm just a bit too excited

maybe it's the boxer in me but I always give 001% when it comes to these type of things

just keep sight of the fact that you can give 100% and still have fun :)

like the idea of two touch football, was gonna suggest that myself, along with some shooting practice (not suggesting for one minute thats a weakness of the team ;) ) also have some ideas for a proper warm up...just gotta find me parachutes....;)

Still, if you're lucky mate, the kiddies might mistake you for a Boy Band Superstar again, and beg you for your autograph.

Then again, they might return it to you afterwards... :D

I'll see the squad this evening!

just to remind everyone...

6.30pm, Regents Park
Meeting place is regents park tube station, by the bus stop. easiest all round. if you are gonna be late, give me a ring (let me know if you need my mobile number) dont forget to bring a bottle of water....

Yeah, light hearted and up for it. I like the sound of that.

Brixton Hatter is playing tonight so I think we might have a full team tonight hopefully.

Nice one!

pm's sent out...keep it anything discussed in them off the boards, walls have ears and eyes and all that ;) :D pm me any comments/queries/worries you may have...

am am off to some god awful meeting now...see you all at 6.30

Bring it on!!

afternoon all! I've been away from the boards for a few days but you'll be pleased to discover that even during my mini-sojourn in west Wales over the weekend, I managed to play several games with my mates, and I managed to marshall a team of 3 cheeky 11 year old kids to a nearly win over six grown adults!

Anyway, good to see it's all been going off in the past few days. I AM WELL EXCITED and looking forward to this! Looks like we've got a full team at last. A keeper might be a problem. Perhaps we can all take turns...?

I am warming to the idea of playing up front. Basically I'm a defender but over the past few months I've been playing more in the midfield, mostly because i'm a lot fitter than normal. But striker would be ok - I'll test it out tonight. I could do with some shooting practice though!

I think we could do fairly well - we should at least win a few games. We'll need to get all our girl/boyfriends along, mates, urban crew etc, a big support will be like home advantage! And as for kit, no need to get too carried away, but couldn't we get 10 simple white t-shirts printed up with u75 on the front and our username on the back? They should only cost about a fiver each. (Photo shops etc do them......)

I think we should defo have a bit of a team warm-up and some shooting practice tonight.

See you all later....

before i disapear...

i dont like this idea, sorry...we need someone who wants to be there and is capable of being there (catching balls, stopping shots, making themselves "big" ) rotation doesnt work in this position imho. but hey, will go with the majority...

That was probably because I was bending her ear about it - then she went off (I assume, to talk to you!) saying she might be able to get some more recruits..... :)

I agree - it's just that we haven't found that person yet. Wasn't wowbagger going to do it?

Sounds smart :)

My foot is still fucked :(

I want to repeat that I can provide a full kit free of charge, though no-one seems to think its a good idea.

I do understand we don't have to worry about it at the moment though.

Re: shooting practice. I had a week of FA training a while back and they did shooting practice with us. I can do a few drills tonight if you all want.

It's pretty simple - how to kick the ball and stuff - but it works.

Re: keeper - my vote is no to swapping keepers. We need someone to stay as a goalie.
