Alternative Euro 2004: U75 Team Needed

Rollem said:
rotation in terms of first 7 is a necessity though , so no-one should sit back and think their place is safe, or that they are guaranteed a start every game. just like no one wants to be a defender, no one wants to be a sub, but i am afraid its a postion you are all going to have to accept at some point :p - offical name? : urban75 innit ;)

fresh legs are as important as strategy, on the day we'll be playing a minimum of 3 games in the league stage, then if we progress it'll be more. if games are 10/15 mins each half we'll be fcuked. It's important for you as our gaffer to spot who's wilting and make the change - thus the reason it is important for each of us to understand our role in the team, ideally we would have 2 for each position. In work gaffer I play in defence, never move forward past the half way line, but I will be able to play anywhere and you'll see that over the next few weeks. I was sore yesterday but today I'm absolutely fine so my fitness is definitely coming back fast. If we're gonna take this seriously we gotta be honest about how good we are in each position. but as you know that's your job :D

what is also important, very important - is communication on the pitch, someone who isn't exactly polite (Chris), gee team mates up, keeping everyone aware and the play flowing,

so lets' talk, what does everyone think now we've had a few days to soak it in...

I'm feeling fine.. playing 3 times a week should sort me out.. haven't lost any bloody bulk, but fitness levels are far better than they were.

and now I know you all a bit better, I can start shouting..

wonder if there'll be anyone about on wed night to have a kick about against?

If its warm, there's always people in Regents Park looking for a game, innit?

Anyway, I'm usually offensive on the football field (to my own team AND the opposition) but Tony's point about talking is important. There's nothing more frustrating than losing the ball because someone hasn't told you 'man on' or not seeing an opportunity/ marking a player someone else has seen and not told you about, as well as geeing people up and so on.

The park's a bit big to find you lot. I only know what Chris looks like and I don't want to be wandering round looking for a pregnant woman and tall serious bloke!

Only one person needs to meet me at the station (if I'm coming - I'll confirm when I've consulted with the boss).

talking on the pitch is one of my strengths, well my only strength probably. but you're right flimsier - too many times on Saturday we lost the ball for that reason.

me, I'll be shouting for sure, from the sideline or on the pitch.

as for the sub thing Rollem, we'll all get plenty opportunity to play so I don't think that'll be a problem.

i think you lot are losing sight of one thing. shouting is all very well, (and we definately all need to do a bit more!) but postions need looking at too. not everyone can play in midfield, and i have my ideas as to where i woudl like people to play...something like the following

keeper (??? no one at the mo!!)

relahni tony

filter sleater scott

ringo ( :p )

obviously i have not included brixton hatter, flimsier, the b, wowbagger (who i think said they would play in goal if need be??) but this is just a prelimary selection. things can change around in terms of who is on the pitch as and when necessary....

anyway, to confirm wednesdays details (so its all in one post)

Wednesday, 6.30pm
Regents Park
Meeting place is regents park tube station, by the bus stop. easiest all round. if you are gonna be late, give me a ring (let me know if you need my mobile number) dont forget to bring a bottle of water....

I like being a defender. Think I'd like the sweeper role best though.

Much prefer a 1 -2-1-2 Formation but you are the boss.

No room for Mondays - but will deffo give you a shout if it changes.

Urban 75 for the cup for sure. think we've got a fair bit to work with and have a good mix of skills etc.

I'd say we need to pass and move a bit more, don't be afraid to pump it into the action area and the rest is fitness (closing down etc).

Without making excuses for everyone, it was a bumpy pitch which makes it difficult.

Also think we played a bit loosely in the formation at times. If we all keep chopping and changing it makes it pretty difficult. If someone knows their role and what is expected then it keeps it tighter.

Organisation, sleep and a bit of good amphetamine base. Is all we need. I think we can get the base from an urbanite but we have to leave the organising to the pregnant one.

are you suggesting a pregnant lady goes looking for base?

reckon we have a little bit of time to try out a couple of different formations. flexibilty is the key :) and whilst i may be the gaffer, everyones input is cruicial....

3 defenders in a 7 a side seems excessive. As does 2 strikers..

Anyway, I've checked with the boss... (I mean my one) and not only am I allowed to play, she's going to come and watch!

Nice one!

I think someone suggested a 3 - 3 formation works very well in 7 a side. I guess it's all about being a unit - to push forward and defend as a team.

I suppose I can see that (formation). I'm glad I'm not a 7 a side captain.

In fact, I don't think I've ever played 7 a side!

edit: apart from in the playground when that was how many players we had by chance, obviously.

tbh lads I'm not bad in the goal, I play in goal for the work team sometimes so if you want I'll try out there when we train this week.

gaffer, like we mentioned, if you can find out the rules etc.. - I had a look at the website and I think the games are only 20 mins, if that's the case then fitness wont be a problem, 10 mins each half is nothing and we'll be able to operate at 100%, it just means less time to get back into a game so we gotta be sharp from the off and know what we're doing... which I feel we will.

Have a look at this site below

Kit site

navigate to tracksuits / Nike range / Park Plus Poly training top
some are pretty neat.... have a look. what ya'll think.

Tops are £10.99 + £3 for one colour sponsor print + £2 for number ...
£9.50 for shorts if you want to get them aswell ..

it would be good to have some good kit

me neither flimsier - I've done the 5-a-side and soccer six's.
it's be good to know what size pitch etc.. so we can train for that

just so you know lads

I AM UP FOR THIS BIG TIME

Missuz Scott came along for moral support last time too and I think she'll be there on Wednesday too.

my thoughts are, £10.99 + seems a bit much for a top...

kit is the least of our worries anyhow....

For the last four summers I've been playing at Regents Park every Wednesday. There was always another team to play without fail.

does your team have a fat bastard's shirt that I can slip into?

and just so you know Tony:

SO AM I ;)

If I remember rightly, you're taller, but by no means fatter, than I!

:p

Errm, it'll fit. And there are shorts and socks. And I'll wash 'em...!
