Alex Salmond elected First Minister of Scotland

Alex Salmond, the leader of the Scottish National Party, has just been voted in as First Minister of Scotland, defeating Labour's Jack McConnell by 49 votes to 46. The vote was met by scenes of jubilation in the public gallery as Labour's strangehold on Scotland is brought to an historic end, but let's hope that Alex can move that sense of jubilation out of the Parliament building and into Scotland proper.

Congratulations, Scotland! Cymru next, gobeithio.

The reaction from Scotland amazes me. Loads of people that don't neccessarily support independence or aren't convinced either way, are very happy that Labour is no longer in power and are now hoping there can be a proper debate about independence, and also to see whether the SNP do any good.

My only concern is that the SNP & Greens is a minority government and the unionist parties will unite at every opportunity to vote them down, especially on things like council tax.
