An independent review;
Review of "A Touch of Class" magazine
It was published for the anarchist bookfair November 2006. So it is aimed at the anarchists and nobody else.
Front page - Name is shite. Picture awful, an attempt at humour which is smile inducing at best, at worst merely dire.
Editorial - The articles in the magazine don’t address the stated aims in this introduction!! There’s no analysis of the times when Class War was relevant, so as they do not know where they have been, they don’t know where they are going!! There is a vague recognition that there is a need for theory and practice - but it is admired as an example by the author in the BNP! It is of no surprise then that Paul (named editorial author) did not say what they were and had no examples from the entire theoretical and practical history of the working class movement that he could have used. ‘Going nowhere’ springs to mind.
Cutting and pasting Franks article on ethics isn’t really very difficult.
Darren and Richard’s article on the state and resistance had a couple of useful paragraphs in it, moments of interest surrounded by padding.
The public order article was ok – but overdid the photographs of the FIT teams.
Surveillance article I will have to read, it's not as urgent as it states in the 'Themes' column...
Layout – appalling.
Judgement - It’s a sad old leftist magazine in form and content. 4/10. MUST do better.
