ESS is just making the non EU EU compliant as I’ve described above . ETIAS is the one where you’ll pay a small fee for a 3 year or so visa .

Given that as a consequence of Brexit EU identity cards were no longer accepted as a valid travel document when entering this country, the UK government and Brexit gammons can go fuck themselves to high heaven if they don’t like this.

so you saying it an extra step that they would not have had to do if not for Brexit

so benefit...

Jesus. ESS is about EU compliance whether the UK is in or out. ETIAS is a system for non EU's only so that is the extra step that you'll have to undertake next time you are off on holiday in the EU due to Brexit.

UK biometric passports don't include fingerprints though, it's facial biometric only. Fingerprints at borders are quite common, e.g. India, Canada & USA. Whether the EU willl get it together in time is another matter, the ETIAS keeps getting pushed back.

AFAIK ESS will mean all arrivals from non-Schengen countries will give prints, so Irish citizens from Ireland and Cypriots arriving from Cyprus too.

jesus so it is a benefit from Brexit

:hmm:

Until somebody can define the word ‘Brexit’ we will never know if it is beneficial or not.
The voting slip was about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland remaining in, or leaving the European Community.
The word ‘Brexit’ didn’t appear.

I thought that the referendum was about the UK leaving the European Union, not the European Community. Until someone can define "leave", I cannot comment on the effects on the UK of leaving the EU.

I'll tell you all something for nothing: the "exit" of Grexit is not the not the same as the "exit" of Brexit. The former would not have entailed leaving the EU, but leaving the Euro. The Euro is a common currency used in a majority of the member states of the European Union. The European Union is an organisation consisting of a number of states in Europe. Europe is the name given to a region on the western side of the landmass known as Eurasia, which is the largest landmass on a planet known as Earth, which a component of a star system known as the Solar System.

An apposite song to accompany your post

Yes I should really have checked since it didn't bring Lady Di into it, suspicious :hmm:

but searching "daily express scheming" gives the link to the actual article

These types of expressions of contempt and snobbery towards ordinary people are important reminders as to why Remain lost and, also, why the wider set of centrist politics that underpin them a) went into retreat and b) lose everywhere they are put before voters.
One of my good friends drinks Carling (sometimes also referred to as cooking lager) and he would have preferred it if we had remained ine the EU.
