We have arrested the lorry driver in connection with the incident who remains in police custody as our inquiries continue. I appreciate this cordon is going to disrupt the activity of local businesses in the area and we will work to ensure that disruption is kept as short as possible.

Becuase we wouldn't want 39 dead people to have an impact on business that would be terrable.

This tragedy is the direct result of the politics of immigration rather than the act of some random psycho or whatever: the people who will be accused of weaponising it will be the people who draw attention to this, not the anti immigration lot, who will be well on the defensive. I knew someone that helped recover and do the PMs for the similar Dover tragedy some years ago. He said it was the most terrible scene he had ever seen. Poor people and really feel for those having to deal with it

39 is a lot of people to squeeze in a shipping container. Would struggle to all lie down at the same time. Hopefully several people do long sentences for this.

Hope it wasn't kids. Lot of Vietnamese kids smuggled into this country at the moment. I occasionally do transport work for Croydon council and couldn't work out why they had so many Vietnamese passengers till I read the notes and looked at the destination. All trafficked kids. And that's just the ones that have been rescued.

Maybe; too early (& shocking) to say atm. However, i wouldn't be at all surprised to see some sick fucks using this tragic example as a reason to bang on about controlling our borders from the EU etc...
