In Nigeria Fela Kuti was building a following and afrobeat was forming as a style of music; salsa was still a radical dance movement, promoting Latino pride in the US; reggae was producing classic after classic; the first stirrings of disco were happening. How can it possibly be the worst year in music?

Yes. My undergrad degree is in psych and philosophy, but included courses in art, music etc. University was 40 courses long. They weren't all done in the area of my major.
